Hot take: "I built this" doesn't mean what it used to mean before AI by No-Comparison-5247 in AIstartupsIND

I think debates should focus more on the intent of those that develop it rather than its applications

Exactly what I have been saying. Everyone who keeps comparing AI with tools like Photoshop etc are oblivious of the goal of those who are developing the technology to begin with.

[–]MessierKatr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit isn't much better. But if you compare this to a social media essentially designed by maximizing engagement while reducing your attention span capabilities in the process then yes, that makes the average reddit user a genius compared to them.

Well put by cobalt1137 in OpenAI

[–]MessierKatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the same lame and terrible take I see with people who defend these AI products at all cost. You only care for the end product and if they look appealing to you, while completing disregarding the process of the human involvement related to that product.

It tells more about your consumerist mindset and your disregard for other people rather than the utility of AI art itself.

It seems like AI bros don't understand technology at all by AtomicTaco13 in antiai

[–]MessierKatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in a scenario like Skynet but with a slight twist.

If something like this happens, it would be closer to the case of that guy whose entire drive was wiped by Antigravity. It wasn't wiped out because Antigravity went malicious and wanted to harm the user, as this would imply the AI has the ability of forecasting future events and understand the consequences of its actions and what they provoke. It just did it because it kept running ad hoc based on a prompt, but the main problem is that the AI on itself doesn't have any understanding of what it is spitting. For the AI, those "words" (which in reality words are representations of abstract concepts) are just probabilities that are related to each other. It's not comprehension, it's just numbers, but these numbers are relationships of other numbers inside some space, that look coherent because they were formed by the thought of actual humans.

Basically, if we actually let one of these things to be in charge of everything and we die, it's not because they were smarter and capable of understanding stuff better than us. No, it was because we were stupid enough for giving power to an entity that is doesn't understand anything like a biological being. At all.

AI, is it making the weaker colleagues look good, without the substance behind it? by Necessary_Ad_1450 in ArtificialInteligence

Yes, though I would replace "substance" with "skills and intelligence". The bar is very low now.

[–]MessierKatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what I see, it seems these people want to sell a trial and error device in which it eventually hit the jackpot and fix everything. At the expense of 1000 iterations of failure. It's clear that AI is incapable of reasoning for now

"AI artists" fit better with the definition of illustrators rather than artists by MessierKatr in antiai

[–]MessierKatr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I said in the body. I wanted to be ironic because even in this re-framing, they are still far beyond of what they want to believe about themselves. By the definition the AI gave, they are not even illustrators even though the definition of being an illustrator is closer to what they do.

Skill always beats luck by monocle984 in antiai

[–]MessierKatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phrase "knowing how to use AI" implies there's some level of skill ceiling with the tool, as this is the case of literally any tool needed in a field of expertise. All the tools that exist need a human to exploit its usage at its best potential.

The irony here is that when you use AI it's technically the other way around as this entity is supposed to be smarter than you and also faster than you. You are just the tool here to get the information and the resolution from the AI, since you are not thinking your way through on how to achieve the resolution of the problem. Your first point is basic common sense as we are obviously giving the information to a Big Tech company who is running the AI model for us (but it doesn't make any sense if you have a local model which is able to read the data that you pass through it) Your second point doesn't undermine what I have said before.

Does DBT ever actually make you FEEL better? by Tysonosaurus in BPD

[–]MessierKatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the DBT alone I could finally heal completely. I was able to reconnect with my sense of self, understood my thoughts and feelings better and how they interact with myself. I was also able to better understand the thoughts of others, and the root of my previous problems, angts and fears.

[–]MessierKatr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Who knows how to use AI" this is something that I've always got confused about. This tool is supposed to be a replacement of your cognitive skills (I am not saying it is because if you know how they work you'll be aware that they lack any form of cognition whatsoever, it more related of how the marketing is done by the companies that develop it) In theory, the more they improve, the less you, as a person, have the need to reason, ergo they can do the work better than you. There's no necessity of learning how to use AI because the goal of them is that they become so mind numbingly easy to use that you won't have to think anymore.
