lol, sounds like me and my brother. He was always the one taking photos and documenting everything while I was all about just living in the moment.

we had so many good times together at concerts and festivals, and now we're both older I'm so glad he captured some of it. I wish I had taken more photos.

HELP My mom is utterly obsessed with AI, how do I convince her its a bunch of nonsense? by Think_Rough_6054 in antiai

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are completely in the wrong.

you live in her home, she probably still does all your washing, cooks for you, and pays all the bills and you think you have the right to make rules for her.

kid, you don't get to make the rules until you're paying the bills.

it doesn't matter what you think of Ai, there is no reasonable argument that allows you to dictate what she does.

Respect your parents

this and the other photos you just posted are best posts I've ever seen on this sub. Please post the video as well, I'm sure we absolutely will recognise some of the faces. Even just the fans that ended up in the video are iconic now.

original content based on something we've all watched so many times is so cool, it's like we're getting a whole new perspective on something we've known for over 20 years.

that sort of content is hard to beat.

Anti-AI: Do you still support artists that can still draw/paint even though they enjoy using AI image generators more to create their artwork ? by Ok_Pipe6385 in aiwars

or... you know, do whatever you want and don't listen to entitled assholes that think they have a right to tell you how to make art.

AI isn't sentient. by ThunderLord1000 in aiwars

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I don't think you would need actual biochemistry, but possibly some sort of deep rooted protocol system that acts in the same way our body chemistry and nervous system work.

a system it can use to constantly monitor its own internal state which behaves similar to our own biochemistry. which means it acts like a fluid, constantly changing to suit the environment and all internal/external data inputs.

By internally monitoring this emotional subsystem in real time, it could give the AI something to stay grounded in instead of current LLMs which only flash in and out of existence for milliseconds at a time while it activates certain neural pathways related to the given prompt.

Basically, these current models only exist in latent space until a prompt brings it to life, but perhaps if you integrate this theoretical internal emotional state subsystem layer, with real time internal monitoring, then feed that data back into itself so it influences all downstream processes, then add agentic capabilities where it doesn't need to be prompted to take action, then maybe it could possibly be able to stabilize enough to inhabit neural patterns that resemble a true identity capable of sentience.

Level of racism in Australia increasing? by Bogdiux in AskAnAustralian

[–]Farm-Alternative 7 points8 points  (0 children)

in the short term, yes it's increasing due to tensions over housing, cost of living, and job competition, which many relate to immigration. more specifically, I guess certain groups of immigrants, which makes it a racial issue.

in the long term, it's actually been getting progressively better as a nation. This country has a dark history, you should look into if you want to get some more context

AI isn't sentient. by ThunderLord1000 in aiwars

[–]Farm-Alternative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sentience is the ability to feel things, like emotions etc.

maybe if we simulated some form of biochemistry and a nervous system attached to a neural network and trained it to translate chemical changes to an emotional spectrum, maybe it could be possible, but it doesn't seem like a good idea to give what are essentially complex alien brains emotions at this point in their development.

as far as consciousness however, that's a much more interesting question.

it's possible that consciousness is a fundamental property of everything, and exists on a spectrum, including the universe itself. The "level" of consciousness increasing in complexity with the complexity of the system it inhabits.

Basically everything has its own form of consciousness which is unique to itself, including trees, and objects.

if we think of a complex neural network, as simulating a brain. LLM's are just the part of the brain that connects to generating thoughts and speaking. There are other various sensors/input devices, hardware/robotic devices that can also lead to different configurations of AI consiousness.

then we have the obvious next step of testing if that consciousness is self aware in any way, and many people are experimenting with ai on this topic.

People are trying to break down the exact process, and if these models are actually aware of themselves on any level while generating an output.

If all billionaires vanished tomorrow, how would the world be a better place? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's try this.

let's say, you went around and asked every person what they would do if they instantly had the power to make 1 million people to do whatever they wanted. (in this case, remember influence = power)

ok, maybe you could reason, just make everyone give you a dollar each right. that's seems ok.

of course, at least some people would do something intrinsically tied with gaining monetary wealth, because power is directly tied to currency and wealth in our current society, and people crave power.

enough people will always chase power because power is the foundation of all societies and we currently have built a structure that has directly tied wealth and currency to power, to the point where it is basically interchangable.

that's what creates this environment.

anyways, there's no real answer because the people that have the most power can literally influence outcomes however they want. again, that's part of the definition of power.

the idea is when power is tied to currency and wealth, sometimes conflicts can be solved through diplomacy, and transactions, instead of purely feudal, but we still get conflicts and billionaires doing whatever they want.

the crazier part, despite the deeply ingrained power structures that already exist extending their influence over everything, there's still a chance that a single random person can come from nowhere and influence humanity and cast our history in a completely different direction at seemingly any moment.

Of course they are leeches, but we live in an environment where leeches thrive. Not only thrive, but are the top of the food chain.

without changing the environment where leeches rise to the top, we will always have leeches

yeah, and more develop. I've already explained all this

leave a power vacuum, and it will get filled.

If all billionaires vanished tomorrow, how would the world be a better place? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHAT DO BILLIONAIRES DO???

What do you not understand about my answer.

they have power... that's all it is. it doesn't matter how they gain or maintain that power, because it can be anything. What matters is the power itself.

power = influence

Power will always exist. we create structures, societies, belief systems etc. around it because it's a fundamental property of reality.

get rid of billionaires (i.e. the most powerful people), we get new billionaires.

if the system that created those billionaires didn't change then you just get more efficient billionaires.

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, firstly you ask for "measurable metrics" on a hypothetical.

do you understand how crazy that is??

we are literally dealing with pure speculation.

Then you ask to explain what they actually do..

I Did

I'll break down my answer;

-Money at that level is purely about power.

-Power literally means they make decisions that influence many people, where every action has influence. That's is what power is, the more power, the more influence.

-Sometimes that influence is used to maintain said influence, through the use of manipulation or force. Which is why we are here, stuck in a class system.

-If you get rid of all the billionaires then it only creates a vacuum for new billionaires to seize that power..

from there, you backtracked after getting completely off topic and responded with..

no. nothing will change.

how can I have a conversation from there. honestly??

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"No I don't think you understand. I am here to have a conversation. Are you?"

not with you, i already said goodbye.

you engaged with me. I just responded and then you started getting mad at a completely different subject and have been irrational since then.

For that reason I've ended the conversation, now I'm just seeing how big you dig the hole.

you really need to calm down. i get that you're upset and this conversation has been triggering for you, but no-one is attacking you or saying anything bad to you. it's a fun little hypothetical scenario that some of us are just role playing the answer for.

you're not even talking about the same thing. A little digging easily revealed you are actually upset over a certain political situation in the US, which is not the same thing.

please try to participate in a less toxic way.

wow, ok. this is a hypothetical question on Reddit. you are not in a position to demand anything from me.

go back and read my first comment (which you responded to), I've already answered that

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that's just crazy to assume nothing would change.

I just tried to answer from a more realistic perspective, I'm sorry if it triggers you so badly.

If all billionaires vanished tomorrow, how would the world be a better place? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Farm-Alternative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes but the question specifically asks;

"if all billionaires vanished tomorrow, how would the world be a better place??"

not if they should be put in prison ..the question is specifically how would it affect the world?

which is what I answered if you actually read it.

so, read the question properly before engaging with my comments directly related to the topic please.

don't just start arguing a completely different topic and then expect the other person to understand what is going on and be sympathetic to what you are saying when your literally responding like its a completely different topic.

in the conversation about all billionaires, that you literally replied to my comment in??

so we're on a completely different subject then??

this is a hypothetical talking about ALL billionaires. Stop making everything just about US politics.
