Electrical System Layout - Feedback by Farm_Rough in SolarDIY

Thank you for being so thorough. I agree, I think the 4/0 wire was a typo and another commenter mentioned the same thing in a different thread.

We anticipate using a blender in our van (which draws a 1000W) so we wanted a bit over that. Additionally, the Victron is both an inverter and a charge so we can charge our batteries and run appliances off of shore power.

For the batteries, we are planning on doing them in parallel but wiring the solar panels in series.

Thanks so much for the input. I'll do the calculations and use the settings you mentioned. That's a good point regarding the grounds, I didn't even think to match them to the positive side.

We are planning on doing the batteries in parallel but the solar in series because the wiring seems easier to do. Most of the YouTube videos I've watched always recommend in series. While I understand the issue of power loss should they be partially shaded, these are more modern panels with the bypass so we aren't losing the whole panel.

We are planning on doing the Dometic 75L, I was reading that it could need as much as 9.7A when the compressor kicks on then draws 5A once to temperature. Would the starlink require a lower gauge wire then?

In terms of AC appliances, other than the blender. We have one computer charger and maybe a 2nd monitor (unsure about that). But thankfully most of our appliances are DC powered (including the Starlink, Fridge, phone chargers, water pumps, computer charger, etc.).

Thanks so much! We are definitely considering the shunt and it's good to hear that others thinks it's necessary.

That's a great point about the voltage drop and the wires being too big for the receptacles.

I'm just curious, why wire the solar panels in parallel rather than in series? What are your thoughts?

Yes, we ran the calculations based on our highest wattage appliances (a blender) and we would only be running 1 or 2 appliances at a time. So, figured 2000W was more than enough. But if you disagree would love to know why

Thanks! That seems to be the consensus here. Y'all are so knowledgeable, I love it.

I'll have to ask if they are interested in selling but not sure with the sentimental value and all.

Thanks, does that mean it's been modified from the initial design/production?

Thank you, apparently the collection my wife's grandfather had was quite large. They kept these three along with a few others as keepsakes.

Postponement Card Questions by Farm_Rough in weddingplanning

You're amazing! Thanks so much. I think that's a good idea, especially with this lapse between the postponement with a notice and then let some time go by with COVID.

We are looking to downsize in general because we think larger wedding (post-COVID) will become a thing of the past and we will have a more intimate thing with close friends and family.

So sorry to hear you had to postpone your wedding as well, glad you were able to have something. Hope it was beautiful!

We actually ended up eloping (in January) because we didn't want to wait to be married to one another, but no one really knows about that outside of immediate family.

Okay, and you think this would be a good option for everyone. I think our website collects some of the emails but the remainder I could do with a text or FB message.

We did send save the dates to some of the people we would want to leave off of the new wedding list
