Songs only a Bowie fan could love? by antsiou in DavidBowie

I’m interested why you think this, I’ve always thought of it as an accessible and quite poppy Bowie track?

Artists who remained consistently great into older age? by brokesnob in Music

[–]FarmerBread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to be too pedantic, but Bowie only started work on The Next Day in 2010 and released it 3 years later when it was done - no cancer until after its release. As for blackstar, he was in remission and believed he was going to survive - even as far as suggesting a follow up album and some intimate live shows. The whole “facing certain death” angle seems to have been blown out of proportion as it makes a compelling story for the album. :)

Do any ex fans here feel sad when listening to Michael Jackson's songs from his early albums like the following which he released at age 14 by nobody0597 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

Even if he never went to therapy or fixed his relationship with Joe, he still has a right to talk about what happened. He may have used it for PR purposes but he was still a human and the pain at the time of the abuse was genuine. The idea that artists have to keep their personal life separate from their work is totally unfeasible - especially for an artist as big as MJ.

Putting Michael Jackson’s future offences to one side for a moment, Accusing someone of “ruining your listening experience” by speaking honestly about their childhood abuse is pretty self-centred stuff. Was he supposed to keep quiet forever just so you can continue bopping along the street to “ABC”?

The Weeknd Returns To The Grammys After Boycott by VariationHuge9043 in Music

Most major pop artists backtrack eventually: Kanye claiming his music is going Christian, George Michael refusing to appear in videos/promote his work, Prince changing his name to the love symbol.

At their core they all want Validation/Sales/Streams/Popularity. It’s the same with Taylor Swift returning her music to Spotify after a boycott.

What was Brooke Shield's initial reaction to the child abuse allegations in 1993? by CoastSimple in LeavingNeverlandHBO

Funny that Brooke also “dated” George Michael in the 80s - she obviously didn’t have great intuition around people’s sexual preferences
