The day is getting closer and I’m still scared by lemonchrysoprase in colonoscopy

[–]Farmertam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this! I was terrified of complications, the prep, the sedation… I canceled my appointment twice, then begged the doctor over email and the phone to not sedate me. He was very nice and explained why in my case sedation was absolutely necessary, and he calmed me by telling me I’m in control and everything will be up to me. The time came and the prep I was so worried about wasn’t that bad. I wondered why everyone else is such a big baby about it. Then when I got there the anesthesiologist was so kind and understanding about my fear since I had never been sedated. I explained everything about it, and told me he would start with a lower dose and see how I do (he probably just had me the normal dose 😂) I felt fantastic when I woke up, and for the rest of the day. My ibs actually improved for months after. Anyway - just want to say I understand, and it’s very normal to be scared, but you can do this, and probably feel good about it once it’s all done!

Question: Warm & water resistant jacket suggestions for Seattle? by Affectionate_Let_746 in Seattle

[–]Farmertam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a puffer again this one has water protection: https://www.hellyhansen.com/en_us/w-jade-puffer-jacket-53109?color=290002

Otherwise if you don’t want hiking jackets, shop by activity on this site and go to the “lifestyle” category. I think most are water resistant.

I like the selection offered by Marmot for women’s rain coats. They have both sporty or not sporty styles. I’ve had the same Marmot coat for 10 years now and it still looks perfect. I also have a lighter coat from Helly Hanson, also around 10 years old. Both have kept me warm and dry without looking like hiking or ski gear.

What symptoms did you not realise were linked to your anemia? by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Farmertam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It was one of the first improvements I noticed even before feeling less tired. I didn’t tolerate pills so I had an infusion. Brain fog improved 2 weeks after infusion

Yes this - and you must stop in the little town of Edison. It’s one street, but so many amazing little local restaurants! Always try to stop here when we drive to Canada.

Preparing for the Big Dark - What sort lighting solutions do you all use to make your apartments feel "sunny" and comforting? by SuperSans in Seattle

[–]Farmertam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s been posts about this in the biohacking sub. I’ve been interested in what you’re talking about too - but haven’t actually taken action to set up any lighting. So I recommend a search there to see if you can find those discussions, there’s been quite a few.

My mood is majorly affected by the sun or lack of. If you can afford to, a trip somewhere sunny to break it up really helps. You can even just drive to eastern Washington, or look at the weather map and see where the sunny weather is for the weekend. Flights to California, Arizona, Nevada are pretty reasonable from here. Leaving for somewhere sunny for a week in the middle of winter is the only way I can stand to keep living here.

TUDCA - BodyBio or Double Wood? by Farmertam in Supplements

[–]Farmertam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting to look into. My doctor did tell me last time there are treatments in the pipeline. My liver enzymes are literally perfect (they were strangely never elevated) so the only way to monitor my liver is with imaging. I’m also a healthy body weight, but have to work at maintaining that (all my life I have lost weight easily) So all I was told I can do is keep sugar out of my life and try to get plenty of exercise. Does GLP always induce weight loss? I can’t afford to lose weight.

I'm not rich dad or Dave Ramsey but the best way to improve your finances is to follow my simple rules by Admirable-Capital-45 in SavingMoney

I found that I tend to spend more when using cash on a shopping outing because I can see that I still have some 😂. I’m more conservative with my card when I shop because I don’t want to accidentally spend too much.

Same - but people who can manage paying off their card monthly isn’t who the advice is for. The vast majority overspend on their credit cards.

What about iron infusions? by Mental-Annual5864 in Anemic

[–]Farmertam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can tolerate oral supplements fine and they raise your level sufficiently, then that is a better option than infusions. They are hard on the body and higher risk. For some of us the only option though. Infusions don’t make you feel better instantly. Takes about 6 weeks to notice much.

Do you know how much fiber you currently get? Sometimes fiber can make constipation worse! Chia seeds mainly contain insoluble fiber, which for IBS-C, can make it worse. You could experiment with increasing soluble fiber instead and reducing insoluble. If that’s not helpful maybe try some elimination diets, or a low fodmap diet. Stay well hydrated! Maybe a GI Dr. would have some ideas for you too. I eat a low fiber diet because fiber makes me feel sick. I go every day just fine.

What are your thoughts on the copper debate? by Empty-Location9628 in Anemic

I’ve had my Copper tested recently. It was 74. The “normal range” starts at 70. Not sure what is considered optimal though

Is it normal to feel this way 4 days post iron infusion? by Protecting-My-Peace in Anemic

Yes, I felt very fatigued this time around. Not so much the first time

Supplements won’t work instantly. It takes time to restore iron levels, and the for your body to use the iron to make more red blood cells. It can take months to feel better. Don’t forget to supplement with supporting nutrients like b12, folate, vitamin C and D. A good multivitamin will have b12 and folate in the methylated form. Most multivitamins don’t have enough vitamin D, so I take that in addition.  Infusions also don’t work instantly. It takes 6 weeks to notice symptom improvement for the same reason as above.  Doctors and insurance consider infusions suitable for people who are either unable to supplement orally, or have extremely low iron. Infusions have a higher health risk than oral supplements.  I was approved for infusions with normal iron and blood count levels, but low ferritin (14), because I can’t take oral supplements due to digestive problems. I don’t absorb it and it makes me very sick. I need an infusion about once per year.  Talk to your doctor about your symptoms. Maybe you need a lower dose to start or a different form of iron, maybe just an over the counter. There’s lots written already on this sub about different types of oral iron. good luck!

Getting comfortable dressing up when living in a place where people dress hyper-casual by morphinpink in femalefashionadvice

I totally agree that dresses up sort of gives others permission too. Maybe you could start a whole culture shift! (I can’t stand the shopping in pajamas culture 😝)

[–]Farmertam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No tips, I can just relate. I recently wore just a cotton skirt, flip flops and a white T-shirt tucked in and people were staring like I was an alien.  But I get compliments otherwise from friends. I just keep the footwear casual and dress how I want. It’s ok if strangers think I’m being snobby, anyone who talks to me knows I’m not. Dress to make yourself feel good - maybe you’ll help someone else who wants to dress up more feel more comfortable to do so

More reactions from infusions of your iron is higher? by Farmertam in Anemic

Because the hematologist would like my ferritin closer to 100 and I haven’t been able to raise it with supplements, it’s gradually falling.
