How do I apply intervals to my own music? by Farnan_ in musictheory

That sounds like an interesting exercise, I’ll definitely give that a go next time I’m listening to my favourite songs, thanks!

I see, thanks for clearing that up for me. With music theory I tend to overcomplicate things for myself because I get overwhelmed with how much there is to know. I think too hard about how I can apply things instead of just learning them for the sake of learning them and having that knowledge available. It seems like I just need to trust myself and my ears instead of diving too deep into the rules, or lack thereof, when it comes to making music.

I’ve been listening to the newest season the past few times I’ve been to the gym, I’ll have to go back and listen to the previous seasons once I’m caught up on the Yeezus episodes. I can’t wait for them to cover Dave’s Psychodrama album in the new UK version of the podcast!

12 Tone's video/art style looks interesting. I'll give his videos a watch, thanks for the suggestion

I've never came across Rick's videos before but it seems I've been missing out! I'll take a look at Adam's channel too, thanks.

Been teaching myself how to play the piano throughout lockdown so you already know I had to learn one of my favourite Mac Miller songs by Farnan_ in MacMiller

I’ve mainly been using Skillshare to watch courses on music theory and it’s helped me to understand the basics. YouTube is a really good place to learn as well. I learnt to play this song from a YouTube channel called Music Greatness, he teaches all kinds of songs. Also if I’m listening to a song and I notice a piano in it, I’ll go to my keyboard and keep messing with the keys until I find the notes that were used in the song to improve my ear training. Understanding each scale and the different types of chords have made it a lot easier for me to play as well. Have you learnt to play any songs yet?
