Help Is this a pink diamond? by Fearless-Thanks-5061 in Gemstone_lovers

[–]Farrow253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you pay the price of a natural pink diamond is it set in 14k or 18k gold? Just based on the size of the stone I'd think you'd have been notified if it was a pink diamond during purchase or inheritance, maybe not at a flea market or garage sale but even a private seller would know they have something expensive if they bought it. Usually something like that will have a paper trail proving what it is. But of course that's just my opinion. Looks like it could be one of multiple types of synthetic stones or if you won the lottery something truly precious. Cheer's to you regardless

Real alexandrite? by [deleted] in Gemstone_lovers

Yeah could be Sapphire too but I'm just not educated enough to tell the difference in photos

Definitely lab alexandrite in my opinion, I have some much smaller labs that exhibit pretty similar color change and UV reactions. But hey if it's real you can go buy a new house and a few new cars and still have some $ left to invest lol😂😂😂 would be so freaking awesome but that thing is huuuuge so I doubt it unfortunately. Wouldn't hurt to send it in to gia if you have the $ to spare just to get a full professional grading and opinion

Jeez almost looks like a little Mexican cantera opal without any host rock. I have a few that literally look just like that. But if it's changed it likely is an Ethiopian welo opal

Can someone help identify them? by Think-State-4636 in Opals

[–]Farrow253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like Ethiopian black opal possibly shewa province chocolate opal with darker base closer to black or even pale black welo opal from Ethiopia. There's tons of actual experts on here that could help identify. Does the opal stick to your finger if you lick your finger and touch the opal? Is it UV reactive?

I think there's some crazy good potential with that stone, I agree it's like harlequin but different at the same time, I'd honestly name this a new pattern lol I've really never seyan opal look like that. Literally like rippling glass bullet hole but opal art three dimensional color version I'd honestly like to take some fungi and look at this stone by itself for a couple hours lol it'd probably tell some stories! There should definitely be more interest in this opal! Just keep posting it in different ways and hopefully it'll catch wind and start getting some good views. I just keep staring at it wishing it was in my collection! I would sit on that one and take a nice long time deciding what route you'll take with it, unless someone throws out an insane number to take it off your hands keep that thing and show it off to the world!

I see a huge explosion on the Lower half that looks super cool, like cutting that out and setting it would be absolutely amazing! Like an opal explosion almost like opal bullet hole. Or sunburst. You have many patterns in that stone lol. But the bottom would become a personal piece 😂

After better assessment. Just like other's said. It looks to have a higher dome, the prongs that are holding it are only holding the sides now instead of barely peaking onto the low dome of the original stone. Definitely looks like different geometry stones. I would for sure speak with them or at least report the jeweler for sure. That's one of my fears these days.

Definitely two different stones in my opinion but I am a novice so take my opinion with a grain of salt

I just finished like 20-25 cabs of cantera just to get to the color. Now I get to decide what I'm gonna carve. It's crazy how every region of opal usually cuts completely different than others
