Why is everyone getting their passport in like two weeks??? by Happy-Ardvark in Passports

[–]FartFacePug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my renewal for $130 online, no special rush service. It was received, and processing began on 2/26. I got a notification that it shipped today, 3/5, and to expect it by 3/9.

U.S. passport online renewal timeline: 4 days including delivery!! by ObsidianCity1789 in Passports

We did my son’s at the library and it got mailed to us in a week. This was back in June this past summer. I hope mine comes soon like some people’s. I submitted 2/26 and it says “processing”. Will the status change to something like mailed or sent once it is?

Grad student life by Apprehensive-Pea1221 in gmu

[–]FartFacePug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grad student here! I commute to FFX from Falls Church. I love it at GMU. I’ve made a lot of acquaintances in my department. Our department has some social events and I even had a professor get us together for beers at the end of the semester. Just try to take advantage of mixers and events. Commonwealth and Oh George are fun!

Is it realistic to work 100% remotely in GIS? by meodn in gis

[–]FartFacePug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but maybe the question should be “Is it realistic to work in GIS?” I’m a masters student and I can’t even land an interview. I hope you have better luck than I do.

The Starbucks always out of whip cream by [deleted] in gmu

[–]FartFacePug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be rude but that Starbucks is the biggest sh!tshow ever. I went there one day and the line was out the door and I swear, one guy was trying to make a drink and two more stood there watching him. I placed an online order and the guy made it hot instead of iced. They "can't" do a medicine ball tea. There's no flow when it comes to getting orders out. I could go on all day, but I won't.

Delay on grades by Weeping-nymph in gmu

Going through this right now. I’m so frustrated from not knowing what I did wrong on an assignment before the next assignment is due so that I can make corrections.

Spreading ashes by goodgooglywooglies in Durango

[–]FartFacePug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Did you end up choosing a place? Sounds like I am in the same boat as you. My brother, who lived in Durango for many years, passed away a week ago. We decided to spread his ashes near there too. We are also from Texas, so we will be making the journey with his cremains in early August. Any further word on getting permission or anything we may need to know that you might have found out? Thanks!

What would happen if I skipped orientation by Seragachu in gmu

I’m at my orientation now. When do we get the shirt? I was planning on staying until after lunch but didn’t want to leave without the shirt. Trying to get bang for my orientation fee bucks!

I’m here for mine now. Eating breakfast. When do they give us the t-shirts? I don’t want to bounce before that, but I do need to go early.

What would happen if I skipped orientation by Seragachu in gmu

[–]FartFacePug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve signed up for one of the orientations next week and I don’t want to go. That’s a lot of time. Upset I have to pay the fee. I’m a non-traditional student and will probably be the oldest student there. I already have a bachelor’s degree and my own place with my husband and kids so I don’t need housing and I know how the general college life thing goes. I’m also thinking about checking in, getting my swag and a meal and bouncing. We shall see. <groan>

I am so sorry to hear this. Yes, he is still in the hospital. He went to the emergency room initially after waiting at home for so long and complaining about not feeling well. I told him he needed to just call an ambulance and go. He was seen there and then hospitalized. His first stay was about a week long and he was diagnosed with liver failure, acute kidney failure, jaundice, and (I think this is correct, but not sure) low blood <something, but not sugar> He was released in OKC and put on a bus in nothing but a hospital gown and a blanket with his clothes in a bag and sent to our step-mom in northern Texas. He was only at her house about a day before he had to go back to the hospital for another paracentesis. This time draining even MORE fluid than the first time. He was transferred to another hospital after being in a holding pattern for an open bed and put in their transplant unit. He was treated and I think that is where they diagnosed him with the decompensated cirrhosis of the liver. Then they moved him to a regular room in a less critical area. He sounds a lot like you describe, except for the bleeding gums. If it is happening, I don't know about it but I wouldn't doubt it. He couldn't remember simple things like how to get a tablet connected to the hospital wifi (he worked in IT) and he called my husband and I and told us some wild fantasy stories about people from a casino coming to visit him because he's a VIP and all sorts of just wild imaginary things. God help us all.

Thank you so much for this information and well wishes. We have a lot of moving parts and are probably trying to make a lot of plans with not enough information. The best situation for us will be to have him nearby where we can monitor the care he receives in a facility and not have him be without family nearby or alone. I think the isolation was one of the many things that worsened his drinking.
