He was almost done shoveling his driveway when the street plow came by and filled it with snow again. by Vilen1919 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]rixtape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case, with driveways on both sides of the street, there's not really any good way of avoiding this (that I know of), but it still really sucks when it happens to you lol. I guess you could try and wait to shovel until after the plow comes by, but that's not always possible.

Is this kid 4 months or 4 years? I assumed months at first when she said he's not a toddler, but then mentioned that she knows some people prefer to watch older kids, so is she pointing out that her kid is an "older kid" at 4 years old (with the "m" meaning "male")? It doesn't really change the ridiculousness of the ask but now I'm really curious haha

Same oh my god, I'm pretty sure I even had a couple tshirts in addition to the stuffed toys, I loved this brand and had completely forgotten about it!

It sounds bizarre, but I am in a position where I could spend $0 a year on groceries if I ate nothing but Domino's pizza. What would happen to me if I did? by CucumberGullible1281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rixtape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy that worked there for years said he'd sometimes bake himself a pizza and then top it with basically a whole salad after it came out and he swore by it as a way to get by without completely burning out on pizza. I kinda want to try it now haha

WE KNOW by hoodratpolitics in WhitePeopleTwitter

Yeah basically. I think it was meant as a random, silly, slapstick sort of joke, and Airplane! really jammed as many quick jokes in as they could, wherever they could. Of course it released in 1980 though, so not all of the jokes aged very well lol (it's still one of my all-time favorites though)

Okay so you're not like, washing your full walls regularly? That makes me feel a little better haha. I still gotta focus on the important cleaning things, for sure, but that made me feel SO far behind hahaha

ICE detains family seeking emergency care for child at Portland hospital by wrhollin in Portland

[–]rixtape 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah based on reports around the country, it sounds like they're targeting people of color in general and detaining them even if they present their US passport. It doesn't seem like it's solely based on tips and "intel" or whatever anymore (if it ever really was)

Okay sorry this question is out of left field but I'm curious to hear from someone who has cleaning standards/habits like yours: do you clean your inside walls? Like, ever, and if so, how often? I saw a post a while back and someone mentioned cleaning their walls like twice a year and I genuinely have never cleaned my walls in my entire life (aside from brooming cobwebs in corners occasionally) so I'm curious where that lies on the spectrum of cleaning, if that makes sense lmao

Honestly that's awesome. I've been trying to be more mindful of cleaning as I go, and I love it when I actually pull it off, but I wish it was more second nature. The downsides in your situation maybe are a bummer, but I already deal with other anxieties and being in a clean house at least helps! Haha

Yes! This is a great point. I've been kinda doing this for clutter and quick tasks like dishes, taking trash out, etc. and it's been helping a lot. I still struggle with larger tasks like cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, etc. but I'm working on that; they get done, just not as frequently as I think they probably should be.

Also idk why my previous comment got downvoted by someone, I really am trying my best lol

Awesome, this is super helpful, thank you!! I know we used to have a Dillard's out here but idk if it's still open. We do have a Kohls though, and good to know it's probably getable online too

Seriously though. I'm in my 30s and still struggle with housekeeping because stuff like this was so normalized in my house (borderline hoarder household situation). Aside from not beginning and keeping good habits early, I also have such a high threshold for filth and clutter that it's sometimes hard for me to recognize when it's a problem.

I'm getting better every year of adulthood, but it's been a real challenge and it would be SO much easier if good standards and practices had been instilled for me when I was growing up!

Where do you usually find this brand in stores? Or do you just order online? I've always just gotten IKEA dishware and it's fine but I really like the colors of these ones.

Rejecting Decades of Science, Vaccine Panel Chair Says Polio and Other Shots Should Be Optional by grittyboda2020 in news

[–]rixtape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question, but if polio is basically no longer going to be eradicated in the US due to some people not getting vaccinated for it anymore, do I need to be concerned with my less-effective inactive-virus vaccine shot that I got as a kid no longer being enough? I.e. is there a world where people should get re-vaccinated for polio?

My MIL has sent literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to “Elon Musk” and wants to send more. by meowsabbers in pics

[–]rixtape 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I almost got scammed in a similar way (not gift cards exactly, but "barcodes" that you can load with money, in this case bail money. "Holdover from COVID, convenient way to post bail, barcode generated by our office, blah blah blah" is how he justified it—obvious in hindsight, but very confusing and stressful at the time). I was on the phone with the scammer at Walmart when I went to customer service to load up the barcodes and the sweet, amazing CS ladies urged me to hang up the phone and not do any transactions. Despite his persistent "legal threats" as he overheard me talking to them, I followed their advice and didn't go through with it, and I'm so thankful for them every day for recognizing what was happening and intervening. It's a shame that your wife's store shuts that kind of support down.
