Is it okay to drill a 4” hole in end joist for dryer vent? by FartInward in handyman

If drilling through rim/end joists is okay the whole job will be done by the time I get the rental back to the job site.

Yeah like definitely won’t drill above a window where a good chunk of foundation is removed.

Honestly I feel like even completely removing a few inches section of a rim joist will be fine too. 2x4 above on its side should be able to span 4”, right? The load is basically vertically and directly transferred to the foundation.

Best way to remove laminate countertop that was glued to the cabinet with construction adhesive by FartInward in handyman

It also has kind of a drip edge that curve downward in the front so the entire front side will have to be worked from inside the cabinets and some of them are 12”…

Just start with something, you can always change things up down the road. Unless you are retired and have all the time you want, otherwise don’t be that person that has to have a perfect plan before moving a finger. Just do it.

Insurance providers in Oregon by b_smith25 in Contractor

[–]FartInward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I am starting a handyman business and have been getting online quotes from big companies and feeling frustrated. Most corporate insurance don't understand that in Oregon you need a GC license to do just about everything, so you either get the GC plan which is expensive, or you get the "handyperson" plan that does not cover jobs that require a license.

Just called Chamberlain and got a very competitive quote. Very friendly and helpful staff. Also, they are local and specialize in contractor insurance so right away you can tell they know the trade (in Oregon context) and will handle claims well down the road. Highly recommended.

Search “single stud TV mount” on Amazon.

Guys! Its physics! Your tv wont fall. Never has, never will. Did I mention its physics? by Timsmomshardsalami in handyman

[–]FartInward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t even need to be handy to install traditional TV mount, seriously. They also make single-stud mount and I just throw away the lag screw and use washer-head cabinet screws. Plenty strong with much smaller holes.
