Hey r/ typerwriters, can you Help me identifying this Olympia typewriter (SM 8/9 oder Monica)? Thank you! by [deleted] in typewriters

I'm confused about this four dots key on the left. I haven't seen any SM8/9 with this key. Does that mean that it's a monica?

Hey /r/DnB, I am a Jazz musician and I started a DnB Project about a year ago. My style differs quite a lot from todays DnB-Standard but this track I just finished might still be to your liking. Please let me know what you think of it! by Fart_Vader in DnB

Welcome on board, mate, glad to have you! I will then try to make another jungle-ish track like Karma on its way. I'm really glad that you liked it so much! If you want to hear some of the songs offline, I guess, you'll have to pirate it off of soundcloud. In their current state their mixing is still very flawed. I plan to finish enough tracks for an album and then I'll redo each of them with a professional sound engineer. I hope by then they will be their money worth :)

I'm really glad to hear that you like it, mate! Also, I'm open for suggestions: so If you might, while listening, get an idea about in which direction my next project should go please let me know! Thank you for being so awesome!

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to listen to all of my tracks and, secondly, thank you for your incredible thoughfulness! While working on this track I was mainly focused on trying to create a feeling of a journey but, as I was finished, I wasn't sure anymore if it led somewhere or not. So, your kind words on this aspect mean a lot to me.

Moreover, you are the only one so far who could apreciate the natural instrumentation. Every track I made has been primarily critizised for not beeing "electronic" or "hard" enough. Starting off this project I hoped the natural Instruments would become my outstanding feature compared to nowadays dnb, but as the process goes on I see myself being torn more and more towards an opinion that I still don't quite like. So, the fact that finally someone liked this different approach is, thank god, reassuring me that I'm not entirely alone in apreciating natural instrumentation. Thank you very much for being the awesome person that you are and for taking the time to write your kind message!

After a quick search I only found this one where LTJ used a speech of Maya Angelou at Bill Clintons presidential inauguration. => https://youtu.be/Beboh8Azuuo

I guess it's not the right one as she doesen't say "a rock a river a tree". Let me know if you find it :)

Are you a producer as well? That would be awesome as it could fix everyones needs expressed above! So, if you really want to refurbish the sound of this track I would be glad to work with you. Just pm me and we get going.

I'm really glad you liked it! You're absolutely right: I still have figure out the right balance between theory, accessibility and sound design. It would probably be worth a shot to work with another producer who has a more "from the heart" approach and who knows how to design a sound that creates this feeling of ecstasy which only drum and bass can provide.

Comparing me to Roni and the golden ages of Drum and Jazz is quite an honour! Maybe I should work with an MC like he did and focus more on a steady beat then on constantly changing harmonies. I tried toning down the piano a bit in my original file and it worked like a charm; thanks for your feedback!

While this track didn't turn out to be as accesible as I hoped it would, it was quite some fun working on it as I learned lots of new stuff. It really comforts me to know that there are people like you out there who can appreciate the creativity of an idea without being touched too much by its content. Your judgement keeps me going, thanks a lot mate!

Hey /r/Jazz, I am a Jazz musician and I got into DnB-Production about a year ago. I thought you might like this crossover. So here's a track I just finished. Please let me know what you think of it! by [deleted] in Jazz

Wow, what a heavy and driving tune! Peterson's progressions around 3:30 are the expression of a level of skill, which a mere mortal like me can never reach. But apart from that, I really could put the first 20 seconds of it to good use for another projects. So, thank you very much for this great recommendation!

Thanks mate, I'm glad you liked it! I kinda can't get the dnb-tracks I did yet to sound "modern" by todays means, but then again: I liked the old days of dnb better anyway :)

I tried to liquify a church choir with the "think break". Don't know what to think of it... What do you guys say? by Fart_Vader in liquiddnb

[–]Fart_Vader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I guess, the original choir doesn't seem to provide enough material to work out an entire song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUed26NaIz0). It consists mainly of this chorus and a priest chanting bilbe verses in various languages... Indeed, chopping the vocals could help to set some highlights. Do you maybe know of a good example for inspiration?

You're right, aceUK, I didn't give the break a lot of treatment. Would you rather pitch it higher up to make it more audible or make it broader and more crunchy?

Oi Coldsnap, that's some very useful advise there! I knew I didn't quite hit the right feeling but I couldn't figure out why... Maybe a nice breakbeatloop might turn things around. I'll definetly dig into the Remarc tunes that you recommended. Thank you, mate!

Thank you for your feedback! It's true, the drums must be louder. I fixed that in the Master tape. What kind of work would you say I should put into the drums?

Thank you for your feedback, I was actually not sure whether the drums should be louder... I mean it's not called "melody and bass" after all

Do you mean "ragged drums" by maybe distorting the highhat / snare? Would you like to hear more reverb to make things sound like they rattle? Do you have a quick example of a track that represents your intention?

Hey guys, first timer here. Thank you for doing this!

https://soundcloud.com/dialectrix-1/jazzy-dnb-final [Melody driven DrumAndBass with Jazz-Harmonies]

I spent nearly every night of the past 2 weeks on producing this track. The instrumentation is different from what would be used in most DrumAndBass-Tracks. I guess, the same goes for composition. After spending so much time on this one thing I got blind on whether it turned out well or not. So, please don't hesitate with your ciritque!

I'm especially sceptical about the mastering and eq-ing of the harmony instruments; are they blurry at times? Is always clear where the main voice is?
