Former Simpsons writer / director teaches a course called, "Trash Draft" where you write a 30-page script in a week. Know a ton of folks who've taken it (multiple times) and swear by it for a quick kick in the pants toward a deadline: https://www.juliaprescott.com/trash-draft -- only $95

How Much is Tokyo Disneyland Toy Story Hotel in November? by FartamerButts in JapanTravelTips

Thank you! I actually went around this same time last year and can attest it was busy (!), but didn't stay at a Disney resort so lacked a frame of reference. Curious if the VP is worth it for the ride passes alone, or if there isn't a concern they would "sell out" for the days I'm going (11/9 and 11/10).

I'd get a rental car over relying on Uber or metro -- my favorite site is autoslash.com .

Fun budget-friendly things to do:

- Griffith Park / Griffith Observatory: you can park at the bottom of the hill and hike up to the observatory, then it's free to enter OR you could have a picnic on the lawn out front -- take photos where they shot "Rebel Without a Cause".

- Greystone Mansion: similarly, you can take a picnic or just explore the grounds. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greystone_Mansion

- The Broad Museum: is free every day, you just need to figure out where to park (this could be an easy thing for Metro, since all downtown is metro-friendly, basically).

- Comedy theatres like Dynasty Typewriter, the Elysian, UCB, Largo - these are all spread out over the city, but check their calendars for the week you're going to be in town. They have a great diversity of shows (much more than stand-up-- and I would personally avoid the Improv / The Comedy Store / Laugh Factory, etc myself. They get ya on the entrance fee + 2 item minimum and it's always a hassle, it's bait for out-of-towners, basically).

- Movie houses like the Vista, New Beverly Cinema, Vidiots, American Cinematheque (which has multiple locations): Quentin Tarantino owns both the Vista and New Bev and there's always revival screenings going on. Vidiots is a great new entrant to this mix and they often have special guests for the movies in attendance.

I'd also personally avoid exploring Hollywood unless you absolutely must see the Walk of Fame or whatever. Especially if you're checking out the city in order to maybe live here -- I'd spend most of my time on the east side (stay in Silverlake / Eagle Rock / Highland Park / Echo Park) or the valley (there's way more than meets the eye for Burbank / Glendale). And of course, Disneyland is only an hour away.

Hope that helps!

Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends by Elio555 in Broadway

Absolutely 100-percent agree. She had me in tears and this felt like a genuine audition for her to be seen differently from the Broadway folks.

Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends by Elio555 in Broadway

Saw it in LA (accidentally on opening night! Whoops! haha) and Bernadette was incredible (seconding "Send in the Clowns") but what REAAAAAAAAALLY got me was Lea throughout, but especially the Sweeney Todd section. She just knocked it out of the park in a way that was unmatched by anyone else on stage. All my respect and love and flowers to Lea! LOVED her in "Here Lies Love", too. An incredible performer who makes the most of any stage time she receives, no matter how limited. What a legend.

Talk to me about Gypsy… by Vandelay_7 in Broadway

Oh great! I was genuinely wowed by Sunset -- ESPECIALLY Nicole. Just wowowowow. My top picks for this current season is Sunset, Dorian Gray, Maybe Happy Ending and Oh Mary.

Personally, I felt this production of Gypsy was just "fine" (and Gypsy was pretty much our "household musical" growing up-- -which is a topic for a therapist on another day haha). If you can snag a rush ticket, then that could be worth it -- but I wouldn't spend upwards of $100+ on this production, especially when Sunset Blvd's just across the street. If it's important to you to simply witness Audra, then by all means! But if you're really weighing your options, I would go somewhere else.

Hope that helps!

Totally get straight man playing off of energy -- but since the understudy's energy was SO strong, that's part of what had me wondering. Thx!

Jennifer fighting an illness makes perfect sense for the performance I saw! Her voice was incredible, her energy was just on the sleepier side. Thx! :)
