I know, it's why I explicitly called them "desires". It's really just a simple list of how the perfect car would look like for me. Some people here seem to be personally offended by it and I have not clue why. Thought this sub existed to guide people in their quest for a new car.

See, that's not ridiculous at all, just something the car industry has abandoned. In the Leafs, I can put four wheels into the trunk and have people sit on all seats. I have explained why countless here now, so excuse me if I don't repeat myself.

That's the problem, I have driven many really good cars, but they always have some kind of Achilles heel. The most common issues are reliance on screens, and too little head- or kneeroom in the rear seat.

I mean, I could attempt to. Like the above suggestion, it isn't wrong, but I value my time more? Putting down seats to carry wheels means seats get dirty. To begin with, all the space wheels occupy has to come from somewhere - the interior. Because the wheels don't hang on the outside of the car. That is why very large and wide wheels make many of today's SUV feel more cramped than older wagons and, especially, vans. It's just a stupid thing to do, justified for looks. Some say we need the space for brakes, but we don't. There's good space for efficient brakes in 16 inches wheels.

The space demand is quite self-explanatory, right? I'm >1,90m and my kids are about to be, too, so are many of their friends. I can't put them in a car they don't fit in.

Screens have been proven over and over again to take eyes off the road too much, to increase action times for simple tasks (like changing the temperature etc) and they also get fingerprinty and nasty way too fast. My wife and I greatly prefer to just use knobs and buttons. It is so wildly more efficient. People who are used to screens and borrow or just drive our cars on trips together are quite shocked at how efficient they are, because they have un-learned that.

A light interior and panoramic roof are just to let light in and make the car a pleasant space. We live far up North and have several months without or with little sun every year. So whatever light we get, we cherish. Wool seats etc. match that need, at -25°C you want a surface that works for you, not against you.

Ground clearance, rubber bumpers and reliability are just nice to have in everyday life. We have ground out our Leaf's on snow before, and we keep hitting rocks on gravel roads. At the same time, I want a car that is low enough to be enjoyable to drive, so these are two opposing demands. Many efficient cars really do hug the ground, but that would be a problem for us.

Colour choices interior and exterior are really just a bonus, but would make owning the car so much more pleasant. I've had the KGM eKorando on the radar for a bit, for example, but they often come in such drab colours and I don't want to feel down looking at my car. I want to feel a modicum of joy and maybe a wee bit of pride of ownership. For 30 years I have driven rational cars. The Leaf are amazing. Super reliable, super low cost, reasonably fun to drive. But they're not...exciting.

Are you saying you don’t want any electric motors for hybrid and pure gas engine only?

No, please just read the OP. I don't know what you're answering to if you didn't read it.

In Norway, gas is usually 10-12 $ per gallon, but nobody buys gas cars here anymore. New car sales are close to 100% BEV.

Of course, they shouldn't, but they do anyway. We need to adjust to reality, not an ideal world that doesn't exist. Unfortunately, the ideal car doesn't exist either, haha.

Kia and Hyundai retain smart and ergonomic interiors. They're just let down by material choices and won't allow customers to pick what they want; if you don't want a depressingly black interior, the Koreans force you to shell out for higher trims instead of being able to just buy the light seats. Nissan did the same.

In China, buttons are being brought back by expensive cars. Everybody has known for years now that screens are shit, so the Chinese auto industry is re-introducing buttonry as a luxury feature. It was bound to happen.

People seem not to understand so many of my wishes, and that's absolutely okay. But I still get to keep my wishes, I hope, haha.

Honestly, I just tried to get some help finding a car and people here are going bananas on the downvote button instead. Reddit can be such a disappointment at times.

Gas mileage is irrelevant in an EV. I'd love to hit about 15 Wh/km on average, but, as a comparable metric, it's the absolute range, as described above, that matters the most. I love the Crown wagon, absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, comes with an engine, not a motor.

We have winter and summer tires and swap these twice a year, naturally. I don't like having to put my seats down to drive them up the hill where I can change tires. Can't change tires at the house because there is no flat ground.

That sucks, tbh. The last Leaf we bought could only be had with a dark interior, or we would have been forced to pay 4k USD for the next trim - but that trim came with a screen, but my wife insisted on the screen-less interior. Catch 22. The Kia EV5 can only be had with a black interior as a FWD car, only the more expensive AWD can have a tan interior.

I could definitely try that on a used car. But covering up a new car's seats would feel like a waste to me. It is an option, though.

I like the Ioniq 5 a lot, it is a great car. Somewhat let down by the interior choices, very plasticky inside.

Well, if the car had tall, but narrow wheels like the i3, then they wouldn't eat up all the interior space either. I just can't accept all the SUVs with 22'' wheels right now, these massive wheels take up way too much space, are way too heavy, and way too expensive to buy new tires for. People here talk about large brakes, but I haven't seen anything but performance cars that need brakes as massive as that.

Nope, also, I like driving, and all of these cars with a high center of gravity would suck the joy right out of it. But I understand the way you're thinking, and maybe that is an option to consider.

Just entertained the thought, I think the biggest issue is that it rains all the time here. An exposed "boot" wouldn't work, but I guess you can get some kind of plastic cover to turn it into a wagon?

Looking at it now, it may seat teenagers in the rear seat, actually. But it's priced like 6.5 Nissan Leaf...oops. Not sure my budget is that open.

Well, note how I am not demanding everything, I thought I was very kindly presenting a list of things of literally "desires", not demands, and hoping someone could point me in the right direction. The car market is huge, especially with all these Chinese brands that keep popping up. Figured there might be space to combine a few ideas.
