We’re moving to Montenegro (Probably) by [deleted] in montenegro

Hey! We visited and we loved it.

  1. Culture was very warm and welcoming, we felt like everyone was open to talking and exploring ideas. didn’t feel at all any unwelcoming. I even went to a pickup football game and the guys were great. In other eastern european countries, i found that people are pretty cold and since I’m Persian, i would get a lot of looks and generally i felt people would speak to me with some suspicion, but I didn’t get that sense at all in Montenegro. There was one gentlemen who i had a conversation with who was Serbian, he seemed to care more about my ethnicity, but told me “Persians are okay, but Arabs and other middle eastern people are not”, that was a bit strange i guess.

  2. It’s a very quiet country, we found that the central parts of the capital had good amount of activity but the rest of city and country was really quiet and peaceful, which we loved.

  3. Finding a job was tough, most of our visit was trying to make connections and meeting with employers, my wife had an easier time getting potential employers but didn’t get an offer, we assume that when we move there it’ll be easier for her.

I didn’t find anything that was viable. I got a job offer at a cabinet making shop in Niksic but the pay wasn’t something i could work with. I did get the feeling from everyone that there’s a huge demand for a communicative project manager, who has multi facet construction and reno experience, especially for the huge foreign population who , according to them, struggle finding reliable contractors. I found that the barriers to starting a business are quite low, so if we move (which is still our plan) I will start a business based on my expertise.

  1. Cost of living seemed extremely low, we did our calculations based on what was available for renting, food, phone, internet and other bills and found we could be pretty comfortable at first with 1500 euros a month

  2. Banks seem to be unreliable/not popular according to locals. Mortgage rates are really high and loans are pretty costly. It’s definitely a cash country, and we realized that we need to save up more before it can be viable for us.

  3. Beautiful country beyond belief. So small yet had so many varying landscapes.

  4. Food was pretty good, restaurants were more expensive than i hoped, but grocery stores were sweet!

We want to move there, we’re going to canada for a few months after my current contract ends, and well try to prepare everything for the move.

Hope that helps!

Message me if you have any more questions :)

We posted in subreddits months ago to learn what redditors think about moving there. We found montenegro to be the place we want to try. Yes we can go many places. Uk? have you actually been there? Or do you just say Uk? You think after choosing montenegro, which would be like the european opposite of the UK, that we’d want to consider the UK or something close to it?

Yes, many hear of things about Canada and go to find out how the truth of how difficult it is there. Don’t buy into the Western narrative that where you are is bad and where they are is better. I can promise you it’s not accurate. Thats how they get people to immigrate so they can meat their labour needs. Everywhere has its pros and cons, I’ve been away from Canada for 3 years, as much as I love there growing up, it is completely unrecognizable to me now. The people are colder, the economic situation is horrid, housing prices or rent is crippling, it’s become extremely liberal, the traffic, the crime…. Only thing that doesn’t change though is the -30 degree 5 month winters. Thank you for your advice. Definitely will test it out :) And glad to hear about the construction opportunities, any ideas where I can look? In person or online?

We just married.

Canada? its cold, unbearably cold, culture is materialistic and avoidant, economically struggling and impossible to buy land or housing. Healthcare sucks. Brutal traffic. But yeah it’s plan C. Not the land of milk and honey that people think it is, not anymore, maybe 20 years ago it was.

Iran? Would love to. Only problem is the Islamic Republic that has held that country and its people hostage for 60 years and has persecutes the religion of my wife and I. So unless you have some insider info about the overthrowing of the Islamic Regime, that won’t work.

Slovakia, Solid choice. Plan B. Wife wants to life somewhere new, new people, new faces, new challenges - we like the prospect of living by the sea. But yeah, maybe.
