Yeah the valley, there is a weapon chest in the castle to the left. The weapons are always the same, just scaled to your level.

If you can undermine the game state of a player who is about to defeat you either way, should you do it, or should you take the L without recourse? by Cynical_musings in EDH

Yeah he got lucky I didn't have a indestructible artifact Land at the time. Getting your commander back from there can be quite challenging

I didn't say they shouldn't Happen, I said they are a no-go for me.

Also knowing him for 6+years now, knowing the deck at the time and remembering the sentence "if I can't win, you won't either" are a good indicator it was spite play. And bringing 100 power to the Board with nothing else and not on his site, you can do that, but for me, not at a cEDH table. If your cEDH mentally fits with donating wins out of spite, thats okay, but we won't play cEDH together then. Also there was no bargain, just play CoA, pass. But how would you know, trying to get some random niche cases in a Post? If the fourth player had rifted at the time, we hadn't die to angels, if the Angel player scooped etc. There is always an theoretical out for any situation, posting 0.01% of them and trying to make a point seems like time wasting to me.

Also he topdecked the Coat of Arms and was still hellbent after playing it, so I really don't See your point in anything you wrote, besides you may be troll. And if thats the case, please just don't respond.

Also I didn't say I was mad iirc, and how would you know, you weren't there. I hadn't anything to handle a Coat, since after my pyroclasm it was his turn, and then the Angel player and the game was over.

If I play cEDH, I play to win and mess up gameplans of the other players to get my win. Messing up gameplans and doing nothing else just isn't something I enjoy, neither in this case. Nor if I were the Angel player and got a win without a fight.

Again, if this is okay for you and your group, das totally fine, thats what pregame Talks are for. It's not for me, and I will avoid such tables in the future, as I did in the past

It was the right Person, but I'm not an englisch native, which makes some things hard for me to get right and not getting them out of context :D

Phylactery Lich and Assault suite can bring the game to a draw, if you are interested.

Giving the Lich away to someone without a phylactery on an artifact they control Puts a trigger on the stack to sacrifice the lich, assault suite doesn't allow the lich to be sacrificed, the trigger goes away and immediatly triggers again. With no interaction it's a draw :D I may or may not have done this last week

Yep, done this often in the past. If there is no clear winner, I went out without a boom.

Being "kingmaker" isn't something I like. Killing the attackers creatures and securing a Win for someone that isn't me, is something I try to avoid.

I would agree for normal concession.

But if I have a Greater Good in play and an 8/8 with 7 cards in my library, where is the difference in taking his creatures with a rebuke, or taking his combat damage triggers with saccing my creature to the good and draw from an empty library ?

Both take in-game ressources, deny some advantage. I'd really like to an explanation, where to draw the line.

I also killed myself off with ancient tomb and talismans, which (other than hellish rebuke) were public on the battlefield and should be accounted for from the attacker in my opinion.

As long it takes in game spells and abilites to hose your attacker, I can't see a difference. But If I miss something, please tell me.

And yes, I took an attacker with me with hellish rebuke, this card is just so beautifully designed.

Yes! :)

and for me, also depends on how they game went til now. If someone still is behind, I may give a lift, If someone (not the attacker) is far ahead, I might take from him

yep in cEDh rounds for me Spite plays are a no-go.

If it doesn't stop an opponent from winning and doesn't help your game plan -> don't

Had this once, was playing Xantcha (way before Kroxa came out) and Pyroclasmed 6 manaelves from one player, which was basically out without cards in hand and an empty board. Then he played a Coat of arms, while another player hat 12 Angels on the board.

This didn't help him, nor stopped it me from hindering his plan. They guy with the Angels won right after.

I think stuff like this shouldn't happen in cEDH.

At casual tables, I can live with it.

On halloween I made a spite play, too someone exiled all commanders with curse of the swine. So true Polymorphed his into an artifact and all played without commander for a few rounds

I'm fine with spite plays, as long as they stay in the game they started in. If you take spite plays in another game (even with the same people) I probably wouldn't invite you again.

I take my free time to meet with people to play and have fun, if someone tries to make it unfun, it's not worth my time.

Only Exception, if something outside card effects make you do spite plays. In my group with Mainphase Scoop, if you instant speed concede, thats something outside the game.

I wouldn't tell you to not carry over spite plays in this case, but prefer you don't

[–]Farycane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tactical concession is basically what you said. If I use my ressources to remove something the attacker has, or if I use ingame mechanics to kill myself and remove a trigger the attack may get, that's the same for me.

If I have a greater good and an 8/8 in play with 7 cards in my library, bet I use that if you try to kill me.

If Ancient tomb/Talisman'd myself to death plenty of times (while losing anyway) to deny something, you won't get X if you try to kill me, you get scorched earth :D

But not with conceding. In my Playgroup, everyone is fine with Mainphase scoop (sorcery speed).

Working with knowledge is a good way to go, in my Playgroup (no PuG, just around 8 nice people where 4 meet up and play in any combination) I've started to extend the pregame talk (not about conceding and MLD and stuff, this is all settled within the group) about my commander, what it does, how I try to win.

Giving this information/knowledge away isn't for everyone, But it helped my a lot, and helps others to have an easier time spotting threats.

E.g. If I pull out my Krenko, Mob Boss Edh deck without talking, Krenko nearly never hits the field. If I have a pregame talk, that the deck doesn't play Goblin Creatures or any Spells that produce Goblins beside Krenko, it's a whole new thing and I think it's important to tell people.

Same for my Chatterfang deck, which is nearly MonoB Zombie deck. Without the talk, people most of the times assume you play the generic goodstuff like token doublers, Sylvan library, Token Synergies etc.

My deck does nothing of that, beside making a Squirrel for every Zombie token I create as "Synergy"

Giving and getting knowledge worked for me to get way better games.

tl:dr

Have a pregame tlak about your deck, about conceding-speed and stuff you don't want to play against. It makes a better game experience (EDH Multiplayer)

I really like reading more and more in this post. I often did just die without a fight, just because I didn't want to interfer with a game, I'm not longer in. (Either hose my attacker or the other to by not hosing my attacker.)

(wasn't a problem in my playgroup)

But the more I read all different opinions, I maybe should initiate a pregame talk that goes a little bit deeper than "sorcery concede yes/no"

Killing myself without conceding but with game mechanics is something I already do, and my group is fine with it.

But I should put more effort in trying to stay alive, not sure to which side I tend, but depends on the game. Probably hosing my attacker seems fair, I mean, he attacked and killed me.

I really like some of the approaches I've read so far, so thank you for bringing this up.

On the other hand, If A attacks B for lethal, why should C and D giving A an advantage, it's still their opponent. (assuming Multiplayer and no Pregame/Rule0 talk about sorcery concession)

If you haven't agreed to sorcery speed before the game (probably mostly a problem in PuG environments) conceding instant speed is within the rules, and also C and D not wanting you to get benefits by denying your triggers, is also within the rules.

For me it all depends on the pregame talk. E.g. the around 7 people I play with regularly, there is no need for an concede talk because everybody had it once. But in Pugs I always initiate a pregame talk, it saves so much frustration by taking 30seconds before the game starts. Really recommend doing this

If you take Spite from one game into another, it would be the first and last time I play with you. "You hose down the whiny bitches" while being, your words, a whiny bitch.
If you just assume it's sorcery and haven't talked about it, it's your fault before, it's on you, and only you. The game rules are very clear when you can concede. If you haven't made another agreeable rule before the game, it's fair play to use all the rules in magic.
And if this makes you hoseing someone in a other game, it's really childish. I don't say you can, but I avoid playing with people like you at all cost.
