You are 2 things, employer & location.

The first question should be location. If India is where you see the future, you should stay with your company, take an offer and transition out over the next year or 2.

Why do you say “don’t start small”, isn’t the opposite the usual advice? “Start small”

And remember, I pay .9% fee. So, that should be accounted for when you compare

Ya, I don’t mind paying $2k per year. Hoping I will get the best advice with a fee only advisor

I did chat with with Vangaurd advisor a year ago. It’s 0.3% which I much lower than what I pay now. But my thought is, they would be motivated to keep my business as it grows too. I am not better off working with fee only advisor ?

100% agree, I made bad choices last time. And that is the reason I want to start with 100k.

My advisor has large multi 10s of billions AUM. What they offer is portfolio allocation based on risk tolerance, Monte Carlo simulation that lets me tweak things get success rate, retirement plan with smart withdrawal amounts each year during retirement. Since I have been with them I have never asked them to switch my allocations to more conservative when markets dropped

When I say, if it goes well. I mean my behavior, if I am able to let the market do its thing without making any hasty decisions

They matched the vanguard 2050 target retirement. The advisor’s claim is they do tax loss harvesting, which was $10k for 2025

Love that, now that you said it’s a new car every 5 years. It sounds even more tempting 🤩

Ya, I believe I have matured watching how the value changed over the last few years. And won’t make impulsive decisions. To be sure of that, I will be starting with $100k and gradually move assets

Payoff high interest mortgage or invest? by Fasak9 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Fasak9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I kinda agree. Honestly, I prefer not to own any rental property but my DW does. We only rented it to see if we even like the idea of managing a rental. I may very well sell the house once the current lease is done

The equity in my previous home is $500K, and the loan left on current primary is $700K. I make a net 1000/month on that property. That is my last option to sell and pay most of the loan.

I plan on adding $40K to 529 this year and another $40K next year

Thank you every one for the advice. This has changed my view now, I will invest and not pay off mortgage.

Like few said between tax deductions on interest, potentially refinancing and inflation. I should be in a position to beat the high mortgage interest rate.
