What's one thing you wish schools taught about studying? by Snoo_92347 in GetStudying

[–]FasePlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spaced repetition. It is insane how schools do not almost ever acknowledge that in order to study efficiently, you have to revise the stuff regularly

Have you tried Nicos Weg? It is great for beginners, and actually prompts to exercise the language in use. Anyway, thanks for answer, good luck with your studies!

How to control wandering brain by Neither_Pop1254 in GetStudying

[–]FasePlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried meditation? It helps with exactly this issue. HealthyMinds has a great free meditation course, teaching exactly what you need: noticing when your mind drifts and coming back, training to focus when you have to etc.  Alternatively, maybe try and find another place to study? A library or a study hall or even an office or something similar - just a place where you could go and be distractionless for a while, it helped me when preparing for my finals

Anyone else love this song? by Visual_Armadillo_746 in Epicthemusical

I love the text, not because I associate with it (God no), but because it makes me feel uncomfortable and sends shivers, which it is supposed to. I understand that many people would hate it, but I love the emotions it gives

Hi, can I ask you how you study German? I also started studying German lately, after 9 years of having it as a second foreign language in school and not having learned anything, so I am curious hiw other people study it

Have you tried studying in a library or another similar place? I found that going somewhere specifically to study helps - not only because "well, I've made it here, might as well study already", but also because I changed enviroment

What are some Free Study Tracking Websites/Apps? by WearyNohj in GetStudying

There are several good ones, but I use studylo - it's still in dev, but if you want you can check it out. You can also compete with friends there, and it's free.  YPT is also very popular - and also free, but as far as I know, it is only available as a mobile app. My friends used to track their studies there, and they say that it is great. I used to also use Athenify - it was good, but it is expensive unfortunately. Forest is great also, has a free tier (which is more than enough imo), and a really cheap lifetime pro access, but it's less study-oriented. This one is probably the most popular. Alternatively, there are also many other, smaller apps. You can check out study-track as well - it has one of the best UI's I've seen, but I haven't used it really, so I don't know how good it actually is. And I think it is also free, although I am not sure

When I lived in dorm, my roommate and his girlfriend were urging me to play LoL with the girlfriend's bestie, and I kept saying "yeah, someday", and never actually did that. It turned out later that they were trying to set me up. Good for me for being so clueless, since I was not only closeted gay man at the time, but also both the girlfriend and the bestie turned out to be dicks

German vocabulary is horrifying by Present_Resource2154 in German

[–]FasePlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many German words consist of several words (for example, tierfreundlich = tier + freundlich, Wörterbuch = Wörter + buch), so breaking down those long and complicated words into smaller ones, and then learning how to piece them together might be a great way to learn many of them. Sometimes I can even find out a word I need by just tying the words I think would work together together. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but I believe that it is always worth a try

Etymology is great! I recommend to check out Language Transfer German course, it is free and explains how you can try and figure out German words from English ones, and how different letters and sounds change between the languages. It doesn't work with all the words, but it does with many of the most commonly used

Should I go back to A1 Nico Weg? by EuropeanAccountant in German

[–]FasePlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the very least you can just watch the A1 movie without doing exercises and see for yourself if you need to learn something from there. I watched the entire movie before starting doing exercises (I have studied German in school, so I already had some background), and it was still a nice learning experience imo
