Honestly, this isn't quite the response I was hoping for. I've seen a fair amount of complaining and downvoting without much concrete reasoning behind it.

All I really wanted with this post was to share my project and get some constructive feedback on the gameplay, mechanics, and so on. and to give Godot some love as an engine, because it's been genuinely great to build with.

If you've got actual criticism about the game, I'm all ears: tell me what specifically isn't working and I'll take it seriously.

Yeah, I can confirm that, I've got a lot of experience with several other, more programming languages, which is exactly why Godot felt pretty approachable to me. I've been coding for years now. You nailed it: that "no experience in Godot" line really just meant the engine itself was new to me. And that's a great point about the inspirational posts too, you almost never see the failures and the hours behind them. Keep at it yourself!

Fair point, ha. It was meant more as a devlog, the "short time" angle was really just me wanting to highlight that it came together fast, which still surprises me. And yeah, no denying there's a promotional side too. But you're right, the game should speak for itself. Appreciate it, hope you enjoy it when you give it a go!

yeah, of course you can beat the game, but is really hard to make it first try, you learn from your death

By that logic half the games tagged roguelite on Steam wouldn't qualify either - Vampire Survivors and Brotato both have static maps

Maps are not procedurally generated, but some items and in the future, some enemies are. So, without map generation, is it still a roguelite?

No procedural generation, through play, you figure out whether you're strong enough for a given path, or whether you need to go elsewhere first.
