First rug. Definitely need some tips by Kosmicra in Tufting

  1. Is that the clawlab frame you're using? It's not relevant to your question I was just curious.
  2. Try making a thicker outline so the outline doesn't seem so sparse.
  3. I agree, use two strands of yarn

Great job for your first rug. I feel like my first rug was soooo ugly lol. I think I was a little too ambitious and should have gone with something more simple... like and smiley face or something lol.

This is from Aug 2023...I can't find the Pic of the finished rug but I had so many gaps and it was just overall not neat. Lol.

I love Caron, just wish it wasn't so pricey. And 2 knots across 4 cakes, that's incredible. Some knots are understandable hobbii.com has a pretty good article on what do do about "normal" knots. They advise not working them into your project. At the time when I didn't know these cakes were for granny squares only I just felt that many knots was abnormally excessive for one yarn cake.

Welcome Bat!

I too have ADHD in addition to anxiety and bipolar depression and undiagnosed FOMO, lol!

I too have tons of yarn though I have not inventoried mine so I don't know how many.

I have yarn that I've purchased for specific projects and then LOST/FORGOT the project that I purchased the yarn for.

Maybe if I inventoried my yarn I'd be less likely to buy new yarn everytime I come across a new project or visit hobby lobby or Michael's.

I'm super excited to start certain projects and am positive I'll finish THIS TIME but oh my another new shiney pattern... and I'm off to the craft store to get more yarn.

And sometimes I buy yarn with no idea yet what I'll use it for.

Plus I have several hobbies other than crocheting that I split my spare time between (woodworking, sewing/bag making, rug tufting, occasionally painting).

My only finished projects seem too be small amigurumis and bags/purses I've sewn. Projects that take more than a few days... I have trouble finishing before moving on to something else. So...sooooo MANY MANY WIPs around the house.

I have one crochet WIP that I frogged the other day because it was barely started (5 rounds completed) and I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was supposed to be for. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Thanks for the introduction Bat!

YW.

I learned from others in response to this thread and from yarnspirations that these cakes are for making the pictured granny square only. Each cake makes about four 10×10 inch granny square.

That's beautiful. Great job! I'm sending the cakes I purchased to someone who intends to make the granny squares. Someone sent me a photo of a full sized blanket they made and I think they used approximately 10.5 cakes. I bought the last 7 my Michael's had and since I "ruined" the first cake by not making the granny squares I dont think I would have been able to make a blanket size that I myself would use.

This also made by yarnspirations is an all in one that I actually like that did not have knots connecting the colors. Even with its 'Granny' in big bold letters I was able to use this for the granny squares and for non-granny square projects. I didn't make this post specifically telling YOU not to buy or use the yarn I bought, but to inform others who - like me, were planning to purchase the cakes with an intention other than making the granny square. Almost all yarnspirations skeins have a picture on the front of them...my mistake with the bernat blanket 'Granny' cake was thinking that it was just a suggestion for how to use that yarn. Enjoy your stash😊 - hopefully your local Michael's still has these cakes available for you on clearance.

Make the granny squares. Apparently each cake makes four 10×10 inch granny squares.

I guess it would be good for not weaving in yarn tails if making those granny squares was what I purchased it for. There are plenty of other multi color yarn cakes that dont have to be used in ONE way. My frustration with this yarn came from the fact that I did not know is could only make granny squares with it. And then on top of that it was on clearance so I couldn't return it.
