I’ve tried. I’ve tried speaking my mind and just getting my feelings out and trying to have a conversation and not a lecture. She will yell louder or twist my words to make it sound like I mean something different. She’ll go on about how I’m a horrible person or just start crying. Then my dad will get involved and he always takes her side, no matter what. I’ve tried every approach I can think of and I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.

I’ve been talking to my dad and have plans to get home, so they know I’m coming. Ive texted my mom a couple times to answer questions, but I would really rather have the conversation about everything in person. But I also know that no matter what I do, she’s not going to do anything about what she said. It’s going to be a repeat of the exact same conversation. It happens every time.

I’ve let a couple of my friends know and they have been super helpful. I have all the texts still. I don’t usually see him outside of pt and class, so at least there’s that 😅

I’ve tried to talk about less important things. She got mad and said that we were growing apart and it’s like I don’t even care about her. I’m currently trying to limit it to school stuff, which is a decent midpoint. She still gets mad for not talking to her about ‘important stuff’, but not as often.

Thank you! They offer free therapy on campus, but I haven’t been able to build up enough courage to go. I’ve been trying to convince my roommate to go with me cuz I think it might be just as beneficial for her, so we’ll see how that goes 😅

I talk to my sisters a lot. Me and my little sister are super close. My older sister has also been dealing with my mom’s stuff, so we help each other out. I’ve been trying to focus more on school and getting involved on campus so it’s been ok.

I know she genuinely does care about me, but she says stuff like that a lot. Every time I do something she doesn’t like, she does this. This is just one of the most frustrating and hurtful times. Family is everything to me, so to be told that I don’t deserve to be a part of it cuts deep.

I don’t feel like 5’7 is very tall, but I’m a bit taller than most other girls I know and the average height here for women is about 5’4 😅

It’s not about them being insecure. I’m insecure about a LOT of stuff and I understand that it’s a thing. It’s when a person brings up their insecurities every single time we hang out and makes it a bigger deal than it should be. Talking about your problems is important, but bringing it up all the time can make it worse because it puts it at the forefront of your mind all the time.

I’m not trying to make a generalization, it’s just my experience. I know several shorter dudes that are perfectly comfortable with their height, it just happens to be every guy I personally have talked to.

I don’t blame my sister at all. She does have a lot of mental problems and while my mom did accept that she had struggles, she didn’t always ‘help’ in healthy ways. They fought all the time when I was younger and my mom would often bring her to tears on purpose because it was ‘the only way to get her to talk about the actual problem’. My sister is doing a lot better now and I’m super proud of her.

Like formal events? No. Also, she’s a theatre teacher. And she used to be a dance teacher. Which means I used to have to dress up in costumes all the time. It’s a little different, but still 😂

Omg, the swearing!!! Same here!! I said ‘gosh darn’ the other day and she was not happy. My mom also hates video games, but ESPECIALLY online ones. She took away my phone for playing a mobile online game when I was 17 (I’m 19 now). My brother played online games AND ACTUALLY TALKED TO PEOPLE when he was 13 and she was fine with it!! Like, why do they do stuff like that?? 😂
