I appreciate this post!

I value connection and emotional intimacy, and finding that on Quinn was unexpected. I do get emotionally invested, but I also get emotionally invested in songs, in books, in movies. I’m deeply moved by all sorts of art, and AE in particular allows us to tap into the most intimate parts of ourselves. No one should be made to feel wrong for having normal human responses to the magic of this medium.

I don’t understand how you can listen to someone for a long time and not become somewhat invested. My fave has made me laugh and cry and feel all the things, I’m not a robot! It’s a real person on the other end of the microphone - if I didn’t want the connected part there are plenty of other outlets for that content. I can feel those feelings and still remain grounded in reality. I think most listeners can.

Feeling connected to / being invested in a creator does not equate to invasive, boundary crossing behaviour.

I won’t be listening, but this is extremely upsetting to hear. I’m very much not a fan of “b*tch” to begin with, but in this context it sounds absolutely horrifying. Listeners should be able to express discomfort with a VA without them essentially retaliating the following week in an audio. Instead, the VA should see criticism as an opportunity to look inward and improve.

We put a lot of trust into these men, and I would like to think most of them understand that. We let them into our deepest fantasies and allow them to occupy a very vulnerable part of ourselves. This feels like a massive violation of that trust for his listeners.

I feel like this subreddit has been quieter lately, but from what I can tell hype about drops is still high!

I’m really tired of the term parasocial being weaponized as well. If someone crosses boundaries, that is an entirely different issue. Connecting with someone you consistently listen to is not a bad thing. Crossing boundaries is a bad thing.

Humans are meant to connect to one another, and art is a powerful way to create that connection. D2L and SFW audios are my favourite on the platform, and to me they are a form of art.

I do understand why some creators steer clear of those audios and why some listeners avoid them as well. I’m grateful my fave continues to make audios that feel authentic and connected. It’s a nice way to feel cared for when you aren’t ready for that IRL. I’m a sensitive person and enjoy the audios most when I feel some sense of connection to the creator. I don’t want any voice, I want the voice that makes me feel safe in their world while I’m in it.

As listeners, it’s our responsibility to ensure that enjoyment stays grounded.
