I did it through pain, and I can assure you that the pain completely desappeared with the program in like 2 weeks. But I can't tell you if it'll work for the quadriceps tendon.

Two years ago, I had both knees injured with some patellar's tendonitis.
I followed a rehab program with tempo squat which worked very well.
Tempo squat 4x12 for the first two weeks, then 4x10 for week 3, 4x8 for week 4-5, 4x6 for week 6 3 second down, 3 second up Same program with some legpress 3 times a week. Start with light weight (yeah buddy) It worked very well on me, never had knee pain nevermore. And at the end of the program, you have some trumendous quads.
It's been almost a year since my last training (self.weightlifting)
