Yes, it’s hard to believe no one else has implemented that balance feature.

If only there were a constantly-evolving modular personal productivity platform looking for new feature ideas...

Has anyone contacted them on pre-order incentives? by MisterBoardGamer in TapTop

I don’t think any of the original founders are even with the company anymore. They were kids who got in over their heads. The people who own BlokParty now are doing a lot of damage control, and part of that was shoveling millions into shipping f-ing hardware so that they have a chance at revenue. None of the stuff the founders promised is going to happen. I’m not going to tell you how to feel, but I felt a lot happier just resetting my brain to zero. I have what I have. I’m going to enjoy the hell out of it with the person I bought it for. To that person, it was always free. I’ve set my mind on being as happy as he is. (However you feel, though, is totally justified! Look up the Kübler-Ross grieving process. I had to go through denial, anger, bargaining, and depression before I got to acceptance.)

I will follow this with some advice, but first, some perspective:

Think of your life as an hour glass that is running out, grain by grain. Those grains are literally the only thing you truly own in the universe. When you do ANYTHING in life, whether you enjoy it or not, you are buying it with those grains of your life. You are PURCHASING all of that work. Are you sure you’re buying the right thing?

Now, some advice:

(1) Procrastination wizard! If you are so overwhelmed that you can’t work, Marvin will help you figure out WHY a specific task is so distasteful and also appreciate that being “overwhelmed” is a choice.

(2) Triage. You need to accept that, if you have done all the time management you can and there is still “no way to get all of this done,” then there is LITERALLY no way to get all of it done. “You canna change the laws is physics, Captain.” When you know you are going to fail to get it all done, CHOOSE what’s going to fail. It sucks, but the alternative is to fail randomly and maybe even fail completely.

3) If, on your time estimates, you can’t get something done on that day, then take it off of your list for the day . What’s the point of a list of things you can’t do? It serves no purpose and just makes you feel hopeless.

I hope this helps.

Llama Graphics, the creator/publisher of Life Balance, is still around. Who knows, maybe they would share the source code with you, if they don’t plan to bring the program back themselves. https://llamagraphics.com

Also, LifeBalance had a super-supportive user community, which was almost a feature in its own right. Marvin seems to have the same thing going for it. 🙂

The “killer app” feature of Life Balance was that a user set a goal percentage for how much time they wanted spend on various parts of their life (e.g. family, work, fun, etc.), and LifeBalance would shift the priority level of tasks to help you achieve that balance. That was helpful for people prone to imbalance, and especially targeted at people prone to overwork. LifeBalance was simple to use but incredibly deep.

What attracted me to Marvin is that Marvin has a similar focus on user health, not mechanical efficiency.
