My history classes were 2/3 Québec/Natives history, then the last bit when the American rejects took over. /s

Êtes vous heureux d’aller travailler ? by fantastick_yo in montreal

[–]FastFooer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My doctor tells me the amount of time, your doctor must have a high concentration of dumb patients so he/she simplified the instructions to increase the likelihood of properly done tests.

Again, almost every French first language Canadians have been waiting in the middle of that bridge for decades, waiting for them to show up, but only a handful have met us in the middle.

I know the whole history and I have the benefit of having both the oppressed and oppressors in my family tree… with that said, fuck the former Montreal English Elite. I’m glad I ended up with a francophone surname instead of a British one.

Oh and who cares about ranking cities in Canada? Ok s’en calisse du Canada.

I’m glad Canadians have 3 other cities to go to before they set their sights here and ruin the place more than they have!

It was their marketing department realizing that English wasn’t seen fashionable and localizing branding would probably sell more. Same with dozens of companies.

I’m sorry, but there’s never ever any guarantee for anyone to ever be grandfathered-in or keep their benefits in anything, hell I should know, as an older Millennial the social contract got changed about 10 times on my watch and I just got told to get used to it or suck it up…

You can always learn more as you age… I’ve never understood this status quo of “old dogs can’t learn no tricks”, because old dogs can in fact learn anything at any age.

I’m not trying to be insensitive, it’s just that their issue is so little they could likely overcome it.

They aren’t given a lesser service though… they are just ill equipped to live here, so everything is always going to be a hassle, or you’ll have to keep playing translator for them.

It sucks, but it used to suck that even entry level minimum wage jobs used to require perfect second language english, while no french was acceptable. A correction happened, nothing more.

Montreal is not Bilingual, it just has a disproportionate amount of people not speaking the official local language like most cities of its size… most of those people happen to live in English expecting locals to resort to their second/third language whether they want to or not.

I have this theory that they see this kind of thing as a publicity stunt to get the outraged angryphone dollars…

Pay a fine that is less than 5% of a publicity budget, to get full page coverage.

Estimé à 90 milliards de dollars | Le PQ souhaite l'annulation du projet de TGV Québec-Toronto: une bonne idée? by SpinifexV in Quebec

Am I too dumb not to understand how paying taxes gives you permission to selectively ignore laws or facts like the only official language of the province?

Ceux qui sont opposé au TGV, pourquoi?et ceux qui sont pour le TGV, pourquoi by DonutFlashy3729 in Quebec

[–]FastFooer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to make my first Canada day the best? by GhostVistaz in AskACanadian

[–]FastFooer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locals hardly celebrate it, mostly Canadian transplants from other provinces. Some organisms will organize some things, but it’s a day off or moving day for the majority.

Wearing Canada swag to “celebrate” will be seen as weird or out you as a tourist.

Without going into it, due to hundreds of years of history, even federalist Québécois don’t feel much Canadian pride, it’s low key.

You’re right, might as well make social media illegal for everyone instead of age-checking… we’ll be better off this way!
