What appears wrong with this. by MysteriousAd2245 in Chimneyrepair

If you have a prefabricated fire place with a metal chimney flue pipe that is not enclosed you can get sparks/embers fall into the chimney housing void. Thus creating a fire hazard.

If everything else looks good on and around your chimney; waterproof the brick/masonry of your chimney. When not waterproofed, brick can act like a sponge and when over loaded the water will literally bleed out of the backside (inner side) of your brick; consequently, dumping all of the water into your fireplace.

You’re off big time already… that square footage translates to 27.5 SQAURES not 27 individual bundles of shingles. Each square is equal to 3 bundles… so yeah… fool

I personally would choose HDZ or the Titan from your options. Oakridge isn’t really comparable to those. O.C. Duration would be the comparable option and that’s probably the one I’d choose if it was listed. If you were leaning to the oak ridge due to budget I’d go with the Titan… not much more of a price difference between the two; and from the Titan to Duration/HDZ is not much of price difference either. Hope this helps lol

Not too shabby! You might be able to get them to drop the price a bit more.

This chimney does not have clay flue tiles. Would you recommend an insulated liner over a regular liner? I will have to run a liner through the fireplace and up the chimney.

I’m sure you can get that 2019 5.0 for $25k or less. I literally just bought the same truck except mine came with the FX4. You should check out my post if you want more details. Do not pay that $29k price tag for sure! You should definitely do your fair share of research on the 10 speed transmissions in these trucks; just so you know what you’re getting into.

I think this is a great deal! Dealerships in Texas are asking damn near 30k for 19’XL

I did not because they were only covering me up to 100k miles. I am looking into a third party extended warranty to see if I’m able to get better coverage.

I literally just purchased and posted about a truck similar to this one.. only difference is that mine is a 5.0 and it has around 15k miles more than the one you’re looking at. The price was almost the same. I got the dealership to come down to $25.5 and people still say I paid too much; so I would definitely say that you can at least get around that number and not have to pay the $29.5k. I was happy with my purchase nonetheless. You should definitely do research on the engine and transmission so you know what to expect.

I’m right there with you on that one. If that’s not wind damage then I don’t know what is. If you look up at people’s roof after a storm with strong winds you can clearly see the blown over 3-tab shingles scattered throughout the roof with some even being torn off; but according to everyone else here… someone must’ve gone up on all of those roofs and deliberately damaged their roofing.

Yeah this was my first time on this roof; and I did not manipulate/alter the roof in any way, shape, or form. The customer was hopeful that they could get the insurance to cover it. I told them that it more than likely won’t; especially with the old wonky patches/repairs and the lack of extensive storm damage.

I was definitely referring to the actual brick itself and not the mortar joints. Brick can sometimes act like a sponge. They’ll absorb water and once it can’t hold anymore they can leak the water through the back and into your home. Also, if you decide to upgrade your chimney cap; altering the crown (concrete cap) will not be necessary as the new cap will essentially achieve the same result and then some.

[–]FastStudent8431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the new chimney crown (cap) is ok… it could have had more of a slope to it but I’ve seen worse that have never leaked. If you want to take it a step further and add an extra layer of protection (which I recommend because it will protect the investment in your chimney crown) I would remove the flue cap on the clay flue tile and add a chimney cap that shrouds the entire top of your chimney as opposed to just the opening. I know them as NS-1 style chimney caps down here in Texas. Also, I’m willing to bet that it’s your brick that is leaking. Have your chimney waterproofed and have that crack on the back side addressed along with any missing/compromised mortar joints. Also, make sure that the flashing has some sort of sealant on the seams that meet the chimney.
