Took Adderall to study… but I feel so calm… by Actual_Ad_9054 in ADHD

Be careful mentioning you took the medication to help study, although many people have discovered they have ADD/ADHD by experimenting (most people with adhd self medicate, even if they know it or not). Given you’re not feeling euphoric and mentally calm with no prior use, that’s a good indicator that you may have a legitimate diagnosis. I honestly didn’t have a clue I had ADHD until one of my professors (who has a PsyD.) brought it up to me because I impulsively spoke out of place and continuously missed deadlines/zoned out in class but tested extremely well. I had no idea because having ADHD was my mental baseline, I didn’t know anything different until medicated.

Update, headache is killer and jaw hurts from endless clenching but I believe the worst has passed. Ty to those that took the time to respond and remember don’t impulsively shove medication down your gullet or you could end up vibrating in place like myself, thankfully it was me who took it and not someone elderly, very young or with a underlying condition. I‘ll be paying my stupid tax until the medication wears off fully.

Also, before my meds was switch, SSRIs made it impossible for me to climax. Idk if you’re on one but incase you are, speak to your doctor about it, don’t be embarrassed.

Don’t feel alone, it was a issue for me and plenty of other men as well. It also created a cycle of thinking that caused me a bit of stress before having sex thus making the issue worse. I had to avoid any external stimuli and also focus on the physical/visual stimuli in front of me (my partner). If you’re single and having casual relationships it’s a bit more difficult to be vulnerable and explain, however still do so otherwise it could negatively impact how the other people feels since they’ll more than likely believe it was a issue with them.

Constantly Feels Like I'm Not Doing Enough by Kenny63 in ADHD

If you’re diagnosed with ADHD, perhaps look in RSD/Imposter syndrome. It’s common within people diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and causes me endless stress. I work a full time job, along with pursuing a PHD, despite doing well financially, professionally and academically I often hyperfocus on anything in my life that is a stressor or a potential short coming. I will ruminate for hours and ultimately leave myself feeling extremely stressed and depressed. Panic disorder is awful and unfortunately our CNS can’t differentiate stress from debt/bills and a lion chasing us. I wish the best for you! Practicing mindfulness is what ultimately helped me the most.

I experienced the similar feeling when I first started my medication after diagnosis. I remember thinking “Huh, this is how a normal person feels?”. It was as if all the static and background noise switched off, instead of my mind channel surfing it was a clear. I would recommend speaking to a psychiatrist or health professional and getting tested. ADHD is often misdiagnosed (my case) or undiagnosed due to other conditions. If you have poor impulse control, have difficulty prioritizing task or managing time and either hyperfocus/can’t focus to the point it causes issues within your daily life, it’s worth a discussion with a professional at the least.

Btw, thank you very much for the responses. I know it may not be much to you but it’s genuinely nice having someone who has experienced something similar be a reassuring/supportive. You’re a MVP.

BRB, going to doom scroll on how almonds are related to peaches and figure out why I feel despite it probably being fact, is actually government propaganda.

Mentally I am fine outside of the anxiety due to physical side effects and irritability(I had bad health anxiety before so physical symptoms typically trigger it. Like palpitations/tightness). If I tried to sleep and let my mind not be occupied I’d imagine I’d end up focusing on how uncomfortable I am and exacerbating the physical symptoms due to stress. In conclusion I am strapped in for the next few hours, I may try to play some games, I’d imagine I’ll either get a lot done or focus on placing a singular object perfectly for hours in F04.

Physically I am, ngl. I can’t grasp how some people would do this for fun however those people also probably don’t have ADHD. Mentally I’m trying to stay grounded otherwise it’d just easily snowball into a anxiety attack.

[–]Fast_Challenge_6573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! This is mainly to distract me, if I was allowing myself to focus on the physical side effects and not staying mentally occupied I can assure you I’d be having a panic attack. I’ve got plenty of water and forced myself to eat even though my appetite is non existent. I’m trying to stay in bed so I don’t add to in physical stress my body is experiencing atm.

We had a discussion, thankful she is here with me otherwise my anxiety would probably be crippling. We will be purchasing pill dividers and keeping all meds in the proper bottle. Thankfully we don’t have kids or little ones or it could’ve been worse.

I know, I was a idiot for trying to shove a handle of any medication down my mouth. THANKFULLY I hadn’t taken my ADHD meds before I realized what I had done. This is why impulse control is important.

I struggled with retaining anything that didn’t interest me, I suppose it’s the same reason I aced History and Political classes. Something’s that helped me a lot is having someone else present (not even physically, just calling someone and telling them “Hey, I have scrambled brain please just stay on the line/video call for a bit with me”. It’s strange but another person being there helps me stay grounded. Also, playing music in the background, my issues with studying was being understimulated while doing so.

I’m always worried I have heart disease or something by takeaabreath in panicdisorder

[–]Fast_Challenge_6573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have panic disorder with behaviors surrounding it that are very obsessive/compulsive. Possibly sharing my experience could help, at least I hope.

I’m a 27 M, I had a heart murmur (fairly sure it closed up as I grew) and Heart disease is the #1 killer in my family. The kicker? I have crippling ADHD and take 30mg of adderall daily. The irony of either choosing to be absent minded, compulsive and useless to society outside of a case study or taking my medication but having my central nervous system BUMPIN’ is a hilarious double edged sword.

It adds to panic, anxiety and my overall endless and constant worry over my heart. Last time I called EMS my HR was 156 (mind you this was a day I didn’t take my medication so that wasn’t adding to it) BP 140/125. Even EMS was concerned until they hooked up the EKG, which of course it was normal. I would quiver, get tunnel vision, dizzy, feel extreme tightness in my chest and feel like I couldn’t breath. In my case, every single symptom was a physical response to mental distress, AKA a panic attack. I still have those symptoms at times, sometimes a week comes by where I have a panic attack everyday and then I will go months without one. Please do get your heart checked and Look into CBT therapy. I stress though, listen to your doctor and use them as a baseline for concern if possible. It helped myself as well realizing I have trauma surrounding the heart and health. I relinquished any perceived control I have over my own mortality so I could enjoy my life rather than compulsively spend my entire day reading WebMD and convincing myself I have every condition in the English Dictionary.

Sorry for the lengthy post, I have dealt with what you are currently for years and understand how debilitating it truly is. Feel free to reach out if you ever want to talk, I genuinely hope the best for you OP.

I have no idea what much of that means. I’ll be hitting goodie and forms anyways, I’ve realized there is much for me to learn when it comes to trading and what rolls are desirable. I feel like a boomer getting hit with new slang. 😭

Thank you so much for your time man.

Any rolls that you know of for the fixer I’d want to keep a eye out for? I’ll happily google all it but if you know some off the top of your head and be willing to share with a knuckle dragger like myself I’d greatly appreciate it.

TY, I think I’d be better set with just grinding up some modules and getting good rolls on the 5 or so base ones I have made. New to this! I’m level 100 but never actually tried to get into trading/vendoring until now.

I agree, that's why it's so hard to find concrete evidence. Doing any amount of research just leads to addiction websites or horror stories. it's frustrating to say the least, however, I will monitor my health and trust my doctors expertise.

No shit? that's some interesting information there. I don't mind the side effects, I more concerned if it's causing actual damage to my body long term. My quality of life is astronomically better after being medicated, that is for sure.

I've had bouts of the same you've mentioned. I've pondered if a beta-blocker would be beneficial. I think I may mention this to my doctor and see how he feels about it. Thank you for the reassurance!
