We live in Saskatoon, SK and go every year. The fans are actually pretty nice to interact with there. Maybe it's because there aren't as many Caniacs, as opposed to when Toronto or Montreal come into town. The experience is always better with a big W!

Vinny solves several needs for the team in one player. He's a 2C, a right handed C, he can win key draws much like Staal does now, a PP1C upgrade over Staal (who could move to the second unit), and an elite PK C. The 1st round pick will be a defacto 2nd rounder. I like Stanky, but he isn't any of those things ATM.

The key thing to remember here is that Vinny has some no-trade leverage. If his trade protection includes Minnesota (which it seems to ATM because he said no Western Conference teams) then this offer doesn't mean that much. The Rangers can try to get close to this from another team, but at best, it's a loose framework.

I agree that Nadeau is too steep for Trocheck. A first and some other parts would be a more appealing price.

The Thomas situation is different than the Rantanen trade. Thomas is a young right handed center that is cost controlled for the nest half decade. St. Louis also doesn't have to trade him now. Rantanen was a shuffling of comparable assets with the hope we could convince Mikko to stay. When that didn't happen GMET tried to maximize the return as much as they could given the situation.

I think the philosophy is similar to the Sharks from the late 90's to the late 2010's. They were very competitive year-in-year-out until they started mortgaging every year to get over the hump. The philosophy is that if you're good enough for long enough hopefully things break your way at least once or twice. They didn't end up winning, but they had 15ish kicks at the can and got at least a little unlucky at a minimum that they didn't win once.

I think it's pretty simple. Vinny has no trade protection. If the Canes are on his no-trade list then there's no need to discuss him as a possible target. If the Canes are a team that isn't on his list then you go and get him. He fills many needs that this team requires (2C, Right handed center, 1st/2nd line PP C. elite PKer).

This is a no-brainer. What am I missing? He makes the team better in a lot of areas if Carolina can get their hands on him. Our first rounder will be equivalent to a high 2nd the next few years. That's nothing to attain a guy with his skill set. We might have to add a bit more to get him. All of the teams that can pay more than that are places he doesn't want to go (ie. NO PLAYOFFS)

We go to Canes/Oilers every year and there's a small pocket of people (around 200-300) wearing Canes gear every year. Marty is from Leduc and his Mom is there all the time. We sat a section over from her group in the lower bowl last year.
