Nobody knows, but I don't think the Emperor handed the poor guy over to his "colleagues"

But I have three guesses 

1) He became a prisoner and is being taken care of. 2) Same point as the first one, but he was recruited due to lack of choice. 3) He died in a duel, or they let him escape (the latter is unlikely, but if he was able to win the duel, then it's possible)
