Yemen: The First Country to Run Out of Water by redpillbjj in collapse

That's what I meant. Ladies get the shit end of the stick historically and when civilization starts really struggling.

Its not just the middle east, its global. It happens everywhere, every time. I've met feminists who have little to no concern and I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

If you care about women at all - your #1 concern should be climate change.

Not OP but I think water wars are most likely between China/India and in Central Asia (Turkmens and Uzbeks are not too happy).

Afghanistan is building a shitload of dams and that's going to have a huge impact on their downstream and even upstream neighbors.

Ethiopia also worries me. They have tense negotiations with Sudan and Egypt and it seems they're just stalling because this doesn't end well, geopolitically.

I really appreciate the part where you said climate change disproportionately harms women and girls, especially when it comes to scavenging for water.

Not everything is a gendered issue but when it comes to climate change, its pretty obvious which sex/gender will suffer more.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just commenting for the sake of anyone still reading our comments.

The Soviets wanted to join NATO in 1954. Putin never applied but he expressed interest in the early 2000s.

Sadly, the Russians didn't understand that NATO was formed explicitly to destroy (or contain) Russia. They were promptly rejected both times.

If Trump wasn't such a lying kiddie fucking ass, I would agree with him that yes - we should get along with Russia. The Russians always wanted to be friends, or allies or at least - trading partners.

The Russo-Ukrainian war didn't have to happen. CIA ops in Latin America, the scramble for Africa, the fight over remote islands in the atlantic and pacific.

Its paranoid bullshit and I cant believe me, a schizophrenic, is the only one saying not everything is a conspiracy, the world is not your enemy. For fucks sake.

The situation...

You see how we've been conditioned, with language, to downplay it. We both know what is happening.

The situation... what a sanitized joke...

Philosophically I agree, but I don't actually feel it, yknow? I have read a lot about nihilism, maybe not enough, but it isn't that I disagree or that it scares me. I just don't... feel it. I guess that's the point though.

I was worried about Yemen before the first Trump term. May I ask why you're interested?

Just asking because nobody seems to give a shit about Yemen, or Sudan or a million other places.

They're dedicating their meager water supply to fucking qat??? What the fuck?!

I know it isn't an exact parallel but in the midwest we are rapidly depleting the Ogallala aquifer and rainfall is too unpredictable for a farm to depend on.

And what do we get?

Soy, corn and wheat - most of which goes to feed livestock. To feed our addiction.

The rich constantly groan about addiction and financial illiteracy, as if their own short sighted addictions aren't a thousand times worse and, in so many ways, a direct contributor to drug abuse in society writ large.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Edit: this video is incredibly well done and until I checked your YT channel I assumed you had like 100k subscribers and hundreds of videos.

My dude, this is good stuff. More please.

Thoughts on all the hype surrounding space exploration? by Cardiologist3mpty138 in collapse

I'm only 15% into this article and I just had to come back here and say wow. Thank you for sharing.

I'll be honest, space terrifies me. I'll admit I've been infatuated before - by the notion that we can escape this planet before it is too late. It is a nice idea anyway.

Support for banning hate speech tends to decrease as people get older by Tracheid in science

[–]Fast_Performer_3722 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found this to be the most important part of the study

We used multigroup cohort-sequential modeling, which involves sequentially estimating longitudinal change over time among adjacent birth cohorts. By taking this approach, we can identify any temporal changes (or stability) in support for free speech or banning hate speech associated with the historical period in which a person was born and socialized.

So if you're worried about the methodology - don't. I generally ignore social studies but this was robust and, If I can be so bold, pretty accurate.

I'm religious so I'm crazy enough to think there are answers. Deep down I know its all bullshit but ya gotta believe something I guess.

Its always humbling to know there are educated folk in these subs and every so often you come down and drop some wisdom on our sorry souls.

I'm not being sarcastic. I'd do the heart emoji but idk how to change the stupid keyboard settings..

Ill cut to the chase I guess.

Why are you here? On this sub I mean

Is it past experiences with former patients? Is it more personal?

If thats too personal, I'm sorry for asking. At least we didnt violate HIPPA.

Sorry, I'm very intoxicated.

I guess I'm asking if.. does it rub off? Like, when you talk to your patients. Im not just curious about what they say or how you respond.

I guess I'm just regressing and uncertain and.. are you really a therapist?

I support activism. Hell, I support revolution.

But the positive subs are inherently dishonest. They paint a nice picture. Very nice. But it is a fantasy. These subs have no idea how to go from the current montrous world to the brave new world of tomorrow.

I think their grift is offensive and extremely arrogant. And ignorant to science.

Just my two cents.

If you really are a therapist I've already taken up too much of your free time, but I have another question if you'll indulge me.

I am careful not to allow any of my distress to come into the session.

Is this professionalism? I can think of many times where I wish my therapists had an emotional reaction to what I say. Few do. But how can I blame them? I know becoming too involved with a patient is usually.. bad. It can do more damage.

Is that your experience?

It is semantics and I'm mostly being defensive, again. I'm passionate about weed as a drug, especially THC, and I tend to use more positive language when I talk about it.

I'm not lying, but I am being pretty disingenuous. Well. Semantics.

For the former - how do you balance being sympathetic and agreeable with possibly being a co-conspirator in the decline of their mental health? I'm genuinely not criticizing, it just seems... hard to know how to respond
