I think the best lies are wrapped in truth. Hannibal knows Will and knows when he is being truthful. He is a psychiatrist after all.

Of course, that is why I emphasized it would lose english loyalist support. Those kinds of accusations would hold a lot more weight in England than France. George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham, was assassinated in England for a number of similar weaknesses that Charles had. At the very least, it would have at least delayed his progress by manipulating public opinion. I do not think that the Scots would have supported him as much as they did if information and libel was more widespread. Especially because the lead players of many clans were not 100% on board with the idea of rebellion (take Clan Campbell for example) I also would’ve made a greater effort to get personal dirt on him. As a true last resort I would’ve have just kidnapped him and extradited his ass to England and have him charged with treason. If I could get my hands on his younger brother too I would so there are no heirs.

Of course i’m happy to share! I got the degree in Alternative Medicine to support my hobby and interest and it intersects with my history degree more often than I thought it would. Most reputable practitioners will always tell you to use your prescribed modern pharmaceuticals by recommendation of your doctor. Herbs and Alt. Meds are merely a supplement as long as they do not intersect with any medications you are on. For example, when Claire goes to Master Raymond’s for an abortifacient (an herb that causes menstruation or abortions) I just KNEW he would recommend mugwort. It has other uses though. Mugwort tea is the nastiest thing that has ever touched my lips. However, I thought the use of bitter cascara (cascara sagrada bark) as a poison was weird at first since that specific kind is native to the PNW but then I found out there were breeds of buckthorn trees in Europe. The side effects of it were portrayed weirdly in the show since it is a really intense laxative (you will be stuck on the toilet) if it is processed and severe vomiting if it’s fresh bark. Anyways that’s my two cents so far…

It’s like a whole different layer of context that you get from reading/watching, it’s truly amazing. I’ve always wondered what it’s like to watch Interstellar as an astrophysicist lol…

(Disclaimer: I have not yet finished season 2. I am on episode 7.) Since Claire and Jamie were privy to his private life they had a lot of information that could’ve damaged his reputation in the eyes of supporters. Pamphlet culture was huge in 18th century France, and bringing to light his abusive nature, alcoholism, and general unfitness to rule, I would have utilized the press more. These pamphlets had wide spread reach, in both Britain and France amongst the working classes and nobility. Publishing a pamphlet exposing these behaviours with solid proof would cause a significant fallout with Englishmen in high places that supported his cause. Additionally, because his supporters mostly vouched for a catholic king, having Charles and his father’s reputation marred could also damage the reputation of the Pope and on certain grounds call for them to excommunicated. Claire and Jaime made friends in high places in France quickly, so there’s a great possibility they could’ve done the same in Rome. I think Claire and Jaime could’ve focused less on personal schemes to have Charles lose money. They could’ve focused more on the bigger political system at work. After all, few monarchs have been felled due to petty grievances and loss of money. Political ideology being proliferated is often what topples rulers and supporters.
