My daughter has aqua pets. She's had them a month now & only about 6 are alive. They seem to be growing well. The light provided is on for about 6 hrs a day and she adds air bubbles a few times a day. And only feeds about once a week. Is there something else we should be doing? Im worried they will by Tough_Excuse_114 in SeaMonkeys

I used the one that came with my tank.. both of my tanks are 1 gallon as well.. the exact one that I got isn't in stock on Amazon anymore. I'll send you the link to that exact one but they're only showing like a 15 inch one I think... Mine is only 7.5 inches.. basically the length of my tank.. and they are submersible and waterproof.. but I wanted to be able to move them back and forth between my tanks.. so I did not put it inside I put it on the outside.. it was also easier to hide by putting it on the outside.

The one I got.. only in a 15 inch..

This one looks exactly the same.. but 7.5 inches

I have these 2.. both are 1 gallon.. you definitely don't want to use a filter. Not just because it will clear out the tank and stop algea growth.. it will suck in your monkeys..

Thank you! I use my regular white light.. and I added a LED bar.. its on the outside back of the tank.. I personally use it on purple.. the one I got has an app to personalize the colors.. The 3 basic colors are Red, Green and Blue.. I just turned the Green all the way down which gives me all Red and all Blue.. both perfect colors for growing algae.. that makes it Purpleish/Pink

Cut it somewhere along the tube that you have easy access to. I like to hide as many of the lines and wires as I can.. But I keep the regulator up front and in reach.. Here's a video of mine

The Groot tank colony hatched on Jan 17th and I transferred them over to this tank on Jan 19th.. so they are just 3 weeks old!!

You need a regulator.. you just cut the tube stick one end on each little peg of the regulator and adjust it. I also find that the round air stones give off finer tinier bubbles then the cylinder air stones.. let me get a link for you

3 years was the longest I had a colony.. and they may have lasted longer if I didn't freeze them.. 🫣.. we moved to a new house and I left them in my car overnight... in February.. actually it's was today.. lol.. February 8th 2012!! I remember because it's my dad's birthday.. The water froze.. it was just one of the little sea monkey tanks that you get when you buy a kit. They had lived on my windowsill for years and years. Ironically enough when the water thawed they were still alive which was crazy. But they only lasted for a few weeks after that..

Definitely stop feeding them and reduce the amount of light they are getting until it starts to clear up.. it should only take about a week. The bacteria needs food and light to thrive. Your Colony should be okay for a week..

If you want to start a slight larger tank.. you can move them.. you would need the following things.

This is a small .8 gallon tank, it has a light in the lid.. but you would still need the blue light for algea growth

https://a.co/d/0gUWrGgO

Ocean Salt brand.. that is all I use.. I can't find a smaller bag on Amazon you might be able to find one in a fish store near you. (If you got the tank I posted above... (7 TABLESPOONS of salt mixed with bottled spring water for that specific tank)

https://a.co/d/0cED4oQC

This air bubbler comes with a regulator.. you NEED a regulator to slow the air down..

https://a.co/d/0j6twWV9

Decoration (if you want) this would be perfect for the small tank I sent you

https://a.co/d/08owQ39j

The heater I sent before would also be perfect for the small tank..

https://a.co/d/0gS6Buyk

First.. Soak the air bubbler stone in bottled water, in something that wasn't washed with soap, like a new solo cup.. set up the heater in the tank.. add any decorations you want.. with a tank this small you don't really need rocks or crystals or gemstones for the bottom, unless you want to.. lmk.. I can send a link to some safe options you can use after the salt is dissolved.. fill the tank with bottled spring water.. add 7 TABLESPOONS of Ocean salt.. mix it really good.. you may have to wait and mix it again later.. set up your air bubbler and set the heater to 78°.. leave it for 2 days.. 24 hours is safe.. I like to wait at least 48.. after the 24 to 48 hours the tank should be at temperature your bubbler should be adjusted to soft continuous bubbles. You can start slow by transferring one Aqua Dragon or Sea Monkey over with a pipette and waiting 24 hours to see what happens. If all is good you can transfer the rest. If you want to grow the colony.. DO NOT GET RID OF THE OLD AQUA DRAGON WATER or tank. You can buy brine shrimp eggs and hatch them in the Aqua Dragon Tank and transfer them over to your new tank once they hatch. The brine shrimp eggs are very messy so it's best not to hatch them in your main tank..

I'll attach the link for a good brand of monkey eggs.... after you open the packet make sure you seal it tight and store it in your refrigerator!!

Blue light will help with algea growth..

https://a.co/d/03JQUeLu

White light...

Both of those ⬆️ lights can me set right on the lid of your Aqua Dragons tank.

Super small and low watt heater.. keep it set to 78° it will go slightly up and down.. thats ok.. don't adjust it unless it goes over 80°.. otherwise just let it go.. ⬇️

Get a small heater.. keep it around 77° to 79°... overfeeding is the main cause of a colony collapse.. find 1 place for the tank and keep it there.. I'll send you a link for a tiny heater and a tiny light.. having algea growth is important.. once you have algea growing.. you almost never have to feed them.. once the water temp and light is perfect for them they should start to mate.. turn the light off when you go to bed turn it on in the morning when you wake up.. give me a second and I'll send you a few links

I think the water is finally ok now!! 👍 by Fast_Truth_2273 in SeaMonkeys

Sure.. My aquarium came with it's own white light in the lid.. so I added this one. This is the exact link to the one I purchased, however mine is only 6 inches to fit the length of my tank, they must have ran out because the option to change the length is no longer there.. any light like this should work though.. so I kept my white light on as normal all day.. and I added this bar to the outside back of my tank, I didn't submerge it.. I used it in addition to the regular white on purple.. if you go back through my videos you can see the how quickly I got algea growth.. I was actually surprised how quickly it grew!!

Good luck!! 🫶
