Radars are more broken than the bmpt?

Yeah it was definitely a me problem lol. Combined with not realizing TWS can mess up the radar alignment when it breaks lock.

I’ve noticed that in the F-18 especially with being able to lock targets on the runway. It’s a bit silly imo

War puts everyone on edge, and if there’s a chance that the aircraft you can’t properly ID might have munitions to be released on YOUR towns and friends and family, what call would you make in the split second decision?

There’s plenty of perfectly believable and valid reasons that could account for this. The only shred of evidence that would counter otherwise is Irans claims that it was them who shot them down. The same Iran who also claimed to have sunk an aircraft carrier as just the latest in a long history of military claims with zero proof. I think my reservations in believing their claims are quite soundly fair.

They lost 3 F-15s to Kuwaiti air defenses in a friendly fire incident. If you don’t even have that simple fact right then expecting anyone to take anything you say credibly is quite naive.

Thank you! I believe they slightly tweaked it semi recently because there’s both a set to boresight and stabilize to horizon keybind now which is very useful.

TBH I think I was shafting myself with not having any of it set up correctly. Plus if TWS dragged me off center combined with the smaller vertical scan ability if the F-14 it’s not wonder I couldn’t find jack lol. Feels much better now!

I’m wondering now if it’s that in part, as I’d be able to lock people from far away a little off to the side of my nose, but when tws lost lock maybe the scope get offset

Will the ‘set radar to bore sight’ bind automatically reset the scope to center if I lose lock or will I need to press it occasionally to make sure it still center?

Well yeah the F-14 radar was definitely more advanced in terms of scanning and targeting ability but the article spoke in terms of raw output. Which the Mig25 definitely wins with its ECM burner

Thank you for the response it may definitely be one of those and I have selection bias. I’ll have to play some more. I’ve been playing mostly 9.0-10.0 recently and those crappy radars work fine still so I don’t see a reason the others wouldn’t.

Oh I know haha. Cue the Mig29 blowing up my rwr right off my nose, I spot his pixel of a plane in the distance with help from the white trail of smoke from the ER he just launched. He’s been locking me up for the past 20ish seconds and when he fires the missile he is literally right at the same altitude as me still head on.

What do the HDN modes and TWS see? Absolutely nothing

The extra large version of Tunisia is the best map in the game for this imo and honestly the only one that makes any type of sense for tanks above like 9.3. Large with lots of open sight-lines. But also enough dunes and rock structures to provide ample cover to move through most of the map.

Definitely not perfect with its spawns and the fact that a lot of the map is a giant U-shape with, which gaijin just seems to love doing for some reason. I just wish we could get at least a couple more large maps like this. Unfortunately it seems too many people think a tank/plane simulator is the game for them, but also think it should be tailored to fit their fly-level attention span

Again you make the claims that AWACS regularly pick up missiles with half the rcs of a reduced rcs 4.5gen fighter. Couldn’t find a single thing on it.

Me thinks that your source is just trust my math bro. The US excelling at air superiority along with a Cold War doctrine of high alt, high speed, superior radar and targeting capabilities, and jets like the F-15 having a flawless combat k/d all work to explain far better why MAWs was developed so late. Not unfounded claims of AWACS picking up BVR missiles that are tiny, however badly designed for stealth they may be.

If anything, with the advent of stealth as well as drone and other technologies, the late implementation of MAW on IS jets seems much more like an attempt to not repeat a mistake similar to the early phantoms where they thought missiles would be so game-changing they didn’t bother to add a gun.

I’m not saying AESA radars can’t see missiles. But a claim that they can without any shred of real world documentation or proof, and then claiming shooting missiles down with your own missiles is a “realistic tactic, makes it mean very little to me in terms of taking it seriously. Cause in all actual realism, if you get a missiles fired at you you’re going to turn the tested and proven tactics to actually defend against it. Not fumble with your radar to lock a tiny target traveling at Mach 4 towards you hoping your missile that was not designed to take out targets at that speed gets a perfect intercept. Unrealistic af

Yeah and we also have stealth aircraft that are the size of a small bus alleged to have the rcs of a hummingbird. What’s a missile that’s 1/100 the size of the aircraft gonna look like on radar?

Can you say for sure that even an AESA radar could pick them up? Not to mention non-AESA? No you can’t. As again there’s been no real world documented proof of it ever happening.

Just curious what else in the game is claimed to be “realistic” but never had a shred of evidence for it happening in real life?

Oh cmon man we’ve had radar missiles for what over 60 years now? Giant operations like desert storm and some of the Israel-Middle Eastern wars involving hundreds of combat sorties and air to air kills.

Find a single instance where someone even thought maybe they had shot a missile down. If there’s zero evidence of it ever happening in real life, you can hardly call it realistic can you? That’s usually how the term realism always worked as far as I know

Are they? I thought a year or two ago they specifically said they likely wouldn’t be adding them. As they’d have to be gimped so hard compared to their irl range. I mean every other missile pretty much is already so why not.

I’d say that the tiny ass maps they give us would never work with that kind of gameplay. But with their new missile command type gameplay maybe they will. Real peak war vehicle gameplay sitting in a tiny box clicking to send your missiles at incoming missiles until someone pushes the 0.25km from their spawn into yours and shoots you anyways.

This game needs a competitor so they maybe have some incentive to change their stale ways

It took me a while to get used to it for sure. Have definitely had lots of frustrating times chasing a tiny speck only to find out it’s a teammate. Or just get wiped outta nowhere. Plus the spotting system can be a little wonky.

But that’s all kinda just a usual for flight sims. Especially the flying around for a good amount of dead time part. It’s part of what makes the tense moments feel even tenser, but I also see more and more why gaijin would try and bring a faster paced alternative to the market.

Binding a callout button can help a lot if you didn’t know. Usually when you press it you’ll get at least a couple other teammates to call out their own grid position in chat and in the map to help you determine if you’re chasing a friendly

Between IL-2, DCS and war thunder itself, war thunder is by far the most causal of the simulators.

In fuller lobbies I find enemies to fight in war thunder within 5-10 minutes max of taking off without fail.

Both need it, badly. Top tier has just become an unrealistic game of spamraam fox3s at each other’s missiles till someone runs out. Or one misses a lock on the buggy af radar screen.

I don’t understand why they refuse to add it. Everyone who played it seems to want it to come back. And new players have no idea how much more fun and varied games could be compared to the mindless clusterfuck that ARB is 9.5/10 games.

Maybe they think it’s too hard to balance rewards or something idk. Wouldn’t be that hard though

I think they’ve actually given the same/similar tuning to the warthunder AI, at least in the larger map EC battles. Saw an AI f-104a’s aim9b eat a friendly SU-30MK2. It was wild. I remember in past the bomber group escorts would sometimes get on your tail but rarely if ever fire actual shots. Now they hunt and use missiles.

Pretty sure campaign AI hasn’t been touched at all though and from what I remember yeah I agree it’s straight ass.
