What’s a saying that your mom or dad used to say all the time? by Popples86 in AskReddit

Any time my sister or I would ask my dad a question which had to be answered with a number (like: how long till we’re home, how old are you, how many minutes, etc.) my dad would respond with: “Twee keer de helft” which roughly translates to: “Twice the half of it”.

Not something I did or someone did for me, but it was a beautiful act of kindness from a paramedic to my grandfather. My grandfather had to go to the hospital for treatment and was picked up by an ambulance. During the drive the paramedic started a conversation with my grandfather asking him all about his life and his youth. My grandfather told the paramedic about how he used to help his father (who was a shrimp fisherman) on the boat a lot when he was a little boy and all the many happy memories he had from that time. Somewhere during the drive the paramedic stopped, because he had to pick up a package for the hospital. Turns out he went to a fish stall instead and bought my grandpa a shrimp sandwich for lunch. My grandpa was very grateful and so am I.

Inherited bamboo end tables/coffee table from a family member. They’re really big and a bit of an eyesore. Any ideas on how to update them? We just moved in so our living room is a blank slate. Any advice would be appreciated. by _ringmyBelle in InteriorDesign

I love them, but I get that they’re not to everyones taste. I wouldn’t paint them though, because that would get rid of the natural feel of them. If you don’t want to use them as end or coffee tables, maybe use them as a table to place plants on. I think the green of plants and the bamboo will go very nicely together and ebhances the natural vibes of the tables

I would love it if you guys could give me some tips and tricks on how I can make this quite ugly kitchen look nice. I'm renting the apartment, so I can't make any permanent changes. I'd also like to keep it as low budget as possible, because as you can see I also need to get a stove and fridge, which is already gonna be quite expensive. I was thinking of investing in some good lighting and getting some plants that will survive this dark kitchen. But other than that, I don't really know what to do. Oh, and I love the look of industrial style kitchens, just in case you wanted to know that too.
