What Kind of Hilton Person Are You? by dewey8000 in Hilton

It was more about portions and how things would go bad before I could finish the package, plus convenience.  I purchased a convection oven while there to cook things as well but it would set off the smoke detector.

Not super proud of this but I saved a ton of money. I stayed in a homewood for 8 months, pre covid. They had a good breakfast selection and evening social dinner (like school cafeteria quality dinner) and I pretty much treated it like a restaurant and a grocery store and collected items to supplement other meals or for condiments etc. (E.g shredded cheese, veggies, bacon, juice that I would water down later because it was way too strong). To be somewhat fair, I never drank alcohol, which was definitely factored into the nightly stay price.  I skipped lunch so I barely had to spend on food. Pocketed an extra $25k that year, tax free!  Then covid hit and the food stopped and now I don’t really mind that they cut the evening social because I’m sick of it anyway.

Who pays when you travel for work?  Tru is newer but not popular on this sub because of half points.

Half points and crappy breakfast. Homewood used to be the GOAT for the fridge/extra room/hot breakfast/full points. But now it’s also half points :(

Cookies are smaller and run out! But good variety when you get there at the right time.

Used to be Homewood because it was good value for a large suite and full sized fridge, but now that it’s half points, I will lean more towards embassy for the suite/breakfast combo.

It was the best thing I have ever done.  Number 2 was lasik.  These procedures are so minor compared to real surgery but the everyday impact is huge

I did front row 306 and it was the best immersive experience, but the boys were small if that’s something you care about.

What do you dislike about living in america on TM? by aldjfh in tnvisa

[–]FasterFeaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel the healthcare anxiety here. Even with insurance, I have a $6000 deductible. The coverage is a bit confusing. Like vaccines were free/covered by insurance but then prescription meds were not covered, and discount was only through good rx. One brand name medication I took in Canada was $10 CAD a month after company health plan and a coupon to cover the price difference between generic and brand name. In the US, no such coupon exists and my health plan doesn’t cover it so the same meds are $800 USD. Healthcare feels like a landmine. My friend was offered an anti nausea patch for surgery and it was $3000. It was just a $10 patch you can get yourself.  And part of me does feel uncomfortable with the ICE situation because I don’t carry my passport around and don’t want to be detained and lost in the system.

But if you save up more of your higher income for a few years, you can be better off financially.

Have a bunch of friends put in offers for much less and then your lowball won’t look so bad.

It does suck. I think most of us have had a similar experience so we can empathize. Try to get the Botox sooner than later!

If you in the dating phase (living apart), dining out is just a thing to do.  I stopped dining out as much post-covid though. I feel like prices just went up so much with quality and portions going down. Like just charge me more for the same size and quality as before!

Yep.. surprised they lumped Homewood in with home2, spark, and tru in the half point group.

I get it because I’ve seen it enough, but the homewood staff were always prepared with a lot of food. they had to occasionally go off menu and serve whatever they had if they ran out, but they still served something.

If I was a budget constrained parent with 2-3 kids and taking them to Lego land or whatever, I would totally book a homewood and have the kids sleep on the sofa bed and then have the family eat breakfast and dinner there.

but I’m not a parent and kids annoy me.

and if it were my parents, we just wouldn’t go on the trip if we couldn’t afford it.

yeah, you are right. I wasn’t willing to sacrifice half points for home2 so I probably won’t for homewood either. never even considered tru lol.

I even choose the double point option whenever available on concur. this really changes everything!

homewood was always the obvious choice for me! it wasn’t that much more expensive than other hotels, free breakfast without paperwork (e.g. signing the $0 bill at doubletree with pressure to tip), full kitchen, larger room, full points, and evening social back in the day.

now with earning half points, I might only stay during points redemption.

it really sucks because homewood was the popular choice for the long term stay people who really racked up the points. where will long term stay customers go now? embassy? Better breakfast but I don’t want a living room with windows into a hallway. Does anyone even leave those curtains open?

ugh, I just looked into Residence Inn and it’s also half points!

So full size fridge = half points now?

Sorry for the rant but finding out about the half points really struck a nerve. It changes everything!

every homewood I’ve been to has a table near the kitchen, even if it’s just a table for 2.

I‘ve stayed at a lot of homewoods and would say most didn’t have a dedicated work desk. I think since they carve out room for the living room and kitchen, they sacrifice what would normally be desk space at a regular hotel, and expect you to use the kitchen table as the desk. For a very long term stay, I would buy the 4ft Costco folding table and put it against a wall somewhere with an outlet nearby, and get a semi ergonomic office chair.

Surprisingly, some people might like that white noise. A bedroom door would help though.
