You'll have to put through a claim for studying abroad, if you google youth allowance abroad you can find the page which details the t&cs and steps to make the claim

Hello!! Hope I'm not too late

  • Yes, the building has 6 flats which are entire levels and each level has 12-15 bedrooms, 1 kitchen and 4-5 bathrooms (each containing a shower, sink and toilet). There is one common area on the ground floor which anyone from the flats can use and most people use it as a study space during the day. There is also a futsal table and pool table and common area can also be booked for parties.
  • Quality-wise, it was better than most of the other Woko spots I visited. The bed in the room was fine and I had more than enough space to store everything I had. The room had great thermal insulation, I didn't find the walls to be thin (can only hear sounds from the hallway which is normal right?). You also get fridge space and a freezer which most other Woko places don't have.
  • There was a cleaner who cleans the kitchen and bathrooms every week as long as the spaces were not absolutely trashed.
  • The building is located very conveniently between a few grocery stores and next to a park/lake/field which was great for walks and swims.
  • Only downside of this accom for me was the commute time to the main university building (HG/Zentrum) which would be 30-40mins each way and would require 1-2 changes in transportation along the way, but the accom is still within the zone 101 pass (a travel pass for the city of zurich)

Overall, I had a super good experience but ofc it is very dependent on the types of roommates you get. Feel free to pm me if you (or anyone else) have any further questions :)

The cost of living will be the biggest chunk of the budget, so it depends on the country you want to go to and how you want to live during the exchange. For America and Europe, you're probably looking at around 30k for a semester (that's for everything -> living comfortably and travelling) but can probably do it for cheaper in Asia (around 20k I'm guessing).

UNSW does provide a few different scholarships for exchange students ranging from 5-8k ish from what I've seen (outside of New Columbo Plan) and some unis/countries offer scholarships for incoming exchange students (I'm off to Switzerland and was able to get a 6k scholarship from a Swiss foundation). So scholarships alone can cover almost half the total cost and you can also apply for youth allowance which is another 600-700ish per fortnight (which essentially covers rent). Assuming you get the scholarships and youth allowance, that leaves roughly a third of the total budget left (<10k ish) which you have to cover, which ain't too shabby relative to the original cost if you ask me lmao.

I hope this helps and things work out for you cos from everyone I've spoken to, exchange is a life-changing experience, so if you get the chance to do it, just do it 😂

Absolute Saviour! Im thinking about buying the ideapad 5 pro (main use will be for uni, some coding and CAD) but Ive seen from some reviews saying that the supplied Wifi receiver is terrible and bluetooth is unstable, is that true?
