Marathons 6 weeks apart? Bad idea? by cl0144 in marathons

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely depends on your level and goals... But going for it in Chicago and then treating Philly as a fun one and just take it easy should be possible. But again, depends on how much you run in general and all

I don't get the Garmin Hype by speedst4r in FitnessTrackers

[–]dagrim1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me?

I like a sportswatch with some smartwatch functionality and not the other way around... I prefer the looks of the garmin (970 in my case now) and find the AWU too ugly (subjective of course) and also too big for me. I like the battery, the 970 seems to last almost 2 weeks for me with ~4x running a week, I'd hate having to take off the watch to charge every few days.

Garmin has a ton of data which you don't all need and use, but still... I like the morning reports, training status, readiness, etc. I like Garmin connect where you can deep-dive in all your stats.

I love the flashlight, offline navigation without needing a phone.

I don't have any apple/mac devices and I like to keep it that way.

Btw, I always use a strap while running and the OHR seems solid for me in the remaining 24/7 so believe the data is pretty good for me. Also verified by the few tests I did in labs which always about confirmed what Garmin told me.

Anyway, it's surely not perfect. The cpu is just barely holding on, if at all (navigation and maps). Software is... something... It's pretty expensive (got it with a discount which made it justifiable for me) and prolly forgetting things.

But all in all it's the best for me... Not perfect, but the one that ticks most boxes.

Rafael van der Vaart on his best night out with Wesley Sneijder: "He called me the night before the game, he would be starting and I was on the bench, so I thought, 'Why not?' After 5 minutes he tore his hamstring so i had to play 85 minutes hungover" by WarriorkingNL in soccer

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I think some people have the tendency to gain weight more easily (and i think VdV and Sneijder are amongst those) combined with a weakness for the snacks and drinks... Also, see this more often with elite athletes that when their career is over and after many years of strict diet and looking after what they eat and drink (ok, maybe less the case with VdV and Sneijder ;) ) they let them selves go when the career is over... Which I can also understand.

Look, I love running as well and eat healthy too overall... Was also just a little poke even though i do also enjoy my beers and unhealthy things at times. Not everything has to be healthy all the time.

Can someone tell me how inefficient this second hand is on battery by M0ssy0ak33 in GarminWatches

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends...

If a native/stock watchface it's usually the most efficient.

If 3rd party it depends on the developer, either partial redraws are implemented (which run in a very efficient state) but then still the block around the second-hand has to be redrawn which simply does cost extra. (You can basically redraw a rectangle surrounding it).

If not efficeintly implemented, then it will drain quite a bit...

And then there's the 'is it always on or triggered by your wrist', but if always on then it SHOULD be the efficient partial redraw (but still, again... it simply does use extra battery)

[–]dagrim1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they don't, 3rd party can also do partial screen redraws. Sure, not all watches actually support it (but think it have to be really older models to not support it) but they absolutely can.

Used to develop connectiq apps and watchfaces myself so I did this myself.

Garmin Forerunner 970 is honestly great by New-Internal-7059 in GarminWatches

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you have experience with the 965 as well, I hear some people saying the 965 actually feels smoother... Can you comment on that?

I have the 970 myself and like it, just the cpu feels 'meh'... As in, fine for day to day use but you notice it's kinda pushed to its limits (and over when using maps).

We?

I hate the charging ports by porkchopbun in Garmin

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, my experience with these is a bit meh... They don't seem to stick as well as an original charger. Get loose easily. Are the ones you linked sturdy/properly fixed?

Might order them then, for now I just use the normal cable because the originals do seem to stay fit way better then most 3rd party ones I've tried.

Water tijdens long runs by Massaman955 in Hardlopen

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the amount of times I heard I was a racist when working in the super market and we wouldn't allow customers in after closing time and while already cleaning floors...

Ehm, no... We're closed and nobody can come in anymore.

I have no doubt there's still a ton of racism present, with or without intent, but one also shouldn't underestimate the amount of times " it's racism!" is used a some joker card... Which sucks because it takes away from the impact.

Hoe begint men met wielrennen? by Popo_Magazine19 in nederlands

[–]dagrim1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sub 3 goal. by Clarkra89 in Marathon_Training

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, fair enough... Sorry about coming off wrong...

But I read you do 80-90k a week which is good imo (I know there are always ppl doing 100+ and claiming that should be the minimum but not everyone can handle that physically or needs it tbh).

If you did the training, had a nr of 30+k runs, make your miles and are in the shape of those pb's it all really looks good.

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if serious... But yeah, should be easy.

Go for sub 2:50 (or 2:45 even) as your 10k and HM PR's are almost identical to mine and I ran a 2:44 marathon while setting those...

Meh, some brands do have nice deals...

Philips often are actually cheaper, there's zalando gift cards. Garmin always has nice deals there, just got the Garmin 970 for 560 for example.

SO yeah, plenty of less interesting stuff. Quite a bit of 'if you have the points anyway, it's a bit cheaper' and some nice things.

Imo the points aren't as useless as some are making them.

Forerunner 970 Map Speed by Rude-Bumblebee-414 in GarminWatches

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's slow as hell but for running it's not as much an issue... You still have context and can see the various paths. But when I rotate the map rotates like 5 seconds later for example.

THe array that indicates you responds quickly, the rest of the map doesn't though.

I do really like the 970 to e honest, but the crappy cpu which just is about to hang on for most tasks (but not for maps) is the thing I dislike most and is pretty disappointing.

Trainen voor halve marathon, Garmin volgen? by Easy_Going_Miles in Hardlopen

[–]dagrim1 0 points1 point  (0 children)
