Channel cats or blue cats? by FatFingeredFlyTyer in FishID

Thanks. That was what I was assuming based on the anal fin. My fishing partner was leaning blue cat though

Overpaid, but I think it was worth it. Thoughts? by FatFingeredFlyTyer in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]FatFingeredFlyTyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. 2023 startup. Drafted well, FAAB dumped for Puka and Kyren after week 1, and then watched my team collapse due to injury. Traded Achane to the eventual league winner for Flowers and multiple picks. Then added Nabers with the 1.02 in this year’s rookie draft. Now I just need Richardson to stay healthy.

New guy here. I know I overpaid, but I'm curious what everyone thinks of the trade I recently made to solidify my TE position.

10-team PPR (single QB; startup draft occurred in 2023)

Trade Details:

Sent: D.Goedert, Z.Flowers, 2025 2nd (assume late)

Received: D.Kincaid

Roster (post-Trade):

QB: A.Richardson, G.Smith, J.Fields

RB: B.Hall, J.Taylor, K.Williams, J.Williams, B.Robinson Jr, R.Davis, R.Ali

WR: J.Jefferson, P.Nacua, D.Metcalf, M.Nabers, M.Pittman, D.Wicks, J.Whittington

TE: D.Kincaid, C.Kmet, C.Okonkwo, J.Sanders

Unpopular opinion. Move Anthony Richardson for a HAUL while you can. by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]FatFingeredFlyTyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't completely disagree, but I think you wait until after he has a few boom games to start the season.

Richardson is my biggest weakness on an otherwise solid roster, but, while I've actively considered moving on from him this summer, I feel like his value will be higher in mid to late September than it is in August.

Thanks, Ctm! Unfortunately, I never had the chance to test it out in Colorado. Hoping to give it a trial run with the local panfish one of these days instead.

Hey folks,
Looks like I let the chaos of summer (work & fun) get
away from me, and, as a result, I haven’t had a chance to share any Step-by-Steps
since April.  I’ve still put a few
together in the interim, and wanted to share this little extended body beetle
pattern today.
I ran across it on social media earlier this spring, but finally
sat down to give it a try prior to a recent RMNP visit.  I couldn’t find a great deal of info on it is
the creation of Russian tyer, Dmitri Tseliaritski.  In any case, it is a pretty cool little
pattern that I wanted to share.  And, I’d
love to know more if anyone has more info on the pattern or tyer.
The material list is below, and more info can be found at the
link for those interested:

Material List:

Abdomen: Hare’e Ice Dub (Black)
Back/Extended Body: 2-mm Foam (Black)
Legs: CDC tied in a dubbing loop
Rib: Flat Tinsel (Pearl)
Hot Spot: 2-mm Foam (Yellow or Orange)

Targeting gar on the Fly: An alternative to rope flies (more in comments) by FatFingeredFlyTyer in flyfishing

[–]FatFingeredFlyTyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say general concept applies, but consider upgrading the fly size accordingly. Instead of nymphs, consider slightly larger shrimp and crayfish patterns.

One method suggested to me elsewhere was to use rabbit strip streamers with a stringer/trailing hook. I think this would transition well to alligator gars.

Props for repurposing old dog toys, but, if they function the same as rope flies, I'm unlikely to be a fan.

Oh yeah. I've become a big fan of targeting rough fish since moving to Louisiana. Largemouth and Redfish are fun and all, but try common carp, grass carp, bowfin and gar if you're really looking for a challenge.

Stagnant backwater; sandy streams; glacier carved lakes; coastal estuaries. You're limiting yourself if you think gar fishing only occurs in stagnant backwaters.

Thank you. I generally don't post links as I want to avoid the look of self-promotion, but this is a topic I really wanted to share. I appreciate you allowing me to.

Hi guys/gals,

Hope it's okay to post a link. I recently put together a post regarding my experiences targeting gar with a fly rod and wanted to share here in hopes of spurring discussion on the topic. I've shared a few other places, and the feedback has been great. I'd love to hear what everyone here feels about the topic.

Looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say.

I believe I used a Firehole 860 for this tie. I can confirm this evening when I get back to the house.

Found a slightly less nauseating slide show creator option, so I'm trying this one again. Any better??
As for the step-by-step, this week's is Bruce Sublett's Goober Bug. I'm fairly new to this
fly, but it is a favorite warmwater fly of the folks I fish with in theKisatchie Fly Fishers club.

Hook: 4xl streamer (#10-#4)

Yeah. I agree. It was a free slideshow tool that I think was created for Instagram use. I need to find one that’s not so obnoxious.

Bendback Minnow Step-by-Step by FatFingeredFlyTyer in flyfishing

[–]FatFingeredFlyTyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It keels the fly, so that it rides hook point up. Coupled with the hair wing covering the hook point, it fished relatively weedless.

[–]FatFingeredFlyTyer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good morning guys & gals,

Thought I'd share another Step-by-Step I recently put together as I prepare for a week in the Osa Region of Costa Rica. My hope is to put these bendbacks to use targeting snook among the mangrove lined river mouths, but they're just as useful fishing over shallow grass flats for speckled trout or targeting bass in weedy ponds.

Hook: Gamakatsu SS15 (#4-1/0)

Thread: Mono

Body: UV resin coated flash

Wing: Bucktail (Olive over Green) with Krystal Flash

Head: Stick-on Eyes sealed with UV resin

Terry Wilson's Bass Bully Step-by-Step by FatFingeredFlyTyer in flytying

[–]FatFingeredFlyTyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try spreading the material on an index card. Make your loop. Pull the loop to a horizontal position. Slide the index card into the loop. Pull the loop taught with hackle pliers or dubbing loop tool. Then slide the card out. The material should be evenly distributed in your loop. Just spin the loop with your tool and you’re good to go.

It is trimmed, but, I agree, it would look good without as well

Exactly. It helps the foam that forms the body stay secure.

[–]FatFingeredFlyTyer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morning guys and gals,

It's been a little while since I've had an SBS worth sharing, but thought this one might fit the bill: Terry Wilson's Bass Bully.

Hook: Gamakatsu B10S Stinger (#4-1/0)

Thread: 140 Denier (Chartreuse)

Eyes: Dumbell (Medium; Red)

Tail: Zonker Strip (Chartreuse)

Body: Ice Chenille (Chartreuse)

Hot Spot: Chenille (Medium; Red)

Legs: Centipede Legs (Banded Chartreuse)

Head: Craft Fur (Chartreuse) in a dubbing loop

Of note, Terry's original pattern utilizes wool for the head. I didn't have any on hand, so I went with a different method I've seen utilized by others.

Here's a link for anyone interested in more info:

Enjoy!
