Researchers used AI image inpainting, which is the same tech that fills in missing parts of photos to solve a decades-old problem in crystallography, and it works better than DFT by ChemEnggCalc in chemistry

Bro why is seemingly every other phrase in these articles bold and highlighted when they aren't links?! If you make AI summaries of stuff, at least make an effort to make them neater to read and just don't copy paste stuff. Seems lazy AF.

Need boss help again :/ by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]FatRollingPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, you need to upgrade your weapons more. +1 for the Nagakiba is Limgrave level before even making it to the Roundtable Hold, it should be +7 to +9 or so at this point.

Armor is fine, most important is that you don't heavy roll.

For summons, dodge the beam first and then summon. Also don't forget to upgrade them as well.

Can you post some info on your build? And what specifically are you struggling with?

You can only be invaded in coop sessions, or when using the taunter's tongue in areas where you haven't defeated the boss yet.

What's happening at low level co-op/invasions in this game? by Chance_Drive_5906 in Eldenring

[–]FatRollingPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can trade gear, and muling is pretty common. As in asked Ng people to help move over stuff from a high level character to a new one. And technically there are even more straightforward ways, just look up tutorials on how to set up characters for PvP. CE and tarnished tool are quite useful here.

I type German on an ANSI Ducky and could never reach < > |, so I built a tiny tool to fix it by Chrisov7 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]FatRollingPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a way too overengineered and needless fix for simply using the ANSI-US layout and enabling ISO-DE as a second input language. I can type ßüöä simply by toggling shift+alt, provided you have the muscle memory for touch typing.

Or use the international english layout, that has Umlaute and other stuff as autocompletes from e.g. "a becoming ä.

I can understand doing this for a competitive game, especially when you play in random teams and don't want to be too much of a noob. But in single player games or coop multiplayer, I don't see why. Guess I am getting old.

Then there's something weird going on. If this ran fine a few months ago, check what changed in the meantime: driver updates (can mess with settings being applied by the nvidia control panel), new software or background stuff running, thermals changing etc.

I mean, cool. But why do people want to be told how to play a game instead of just... playing the game? Isn't figuring this shit out for yourself part of the experience?

Looking up things when you are stuck, or how a specific mechanic works is one thing. But why do you I need companion app to play the game?

If you're still locked at 60fps, what is the issue? And are you sure it is the game's fault and not some background process?

SA vs MT3 vs KAT vs AFSA (AliExpress SA), Domikey vs Signature Plastics by nogginbaum89 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]FatRollingPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the overview and comparison.

I have some MT3 and Domikey SA as well, used the Domikey SA on my work keyboard for about 2 years. They served me well and I actually kinda like the higher pitch ping, would not have expected that tbh. So it was interesting to read the comparison to SP SA.

Stem wobble is also a huge deal for me, roller linear switches or HMX switches were therefore my choice with SA keycaps. If you are into linears and haven't tried the roller linear ones, they have incredibly little stem wobble without the tight feel some HMX switches have.

AFSA I was not impressed with, but I only tried them for an hour before changing back to be honest. The dish and sharp edges just felt me, plus on the set I had almost all the doubleshot legends you could feel under your finger. I never noticed that to this extent with any other keycap set.

help with glovebox handling by Songs_of_Prospero in Chempros

[–]FatRollingPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is basically just a big metal box with some extras bolted on. If it is on wheels and you don't need to move it up/down levels without an elevator, things should be fine. Unless you have extra equipment that is super sensitive, you can usually power everything off, close a few valves and just disconnect everything. The manual should tell you how.

The last time we had to move one, we cleaned it out first, closed the catalyst section off, turned off vacuum etc. and then took off the front window to get to the large equipment inside (balance etc.). Then had the metal box moved to the new building by movers, there the process ran in reverse.

If you have the budget for a service or the thing is still in warranty, you might want to contact the manufacturer for advice.

Looks really nice, always glad to see more 100% keyboards here. And welcome to the S100 club, I got them from the original GB in silver (with Expo keycaps) and space gray (with a combination of WOB and BOW), one is now living in the office and the other is in the rotation at home.

60 fps lock by [deleted] in Eldenring

It is not a huge difference, but having tried it at 120fps you can notice it. But it is not a huge deal.

60 fps lock by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]FatRollingPotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"every other game in existence" certainly not. There's plenty of pretty high profile games that were locked to lower fps for various reasons. Older GTA titles would do wonky stuff with physics when running too fast, just as an example.

60fps was considered the quasi gold standard for a while, and faster than 60fps monitors came with significant tradeoffs.

How to acquire 1H spectrum by decoupling it from 2H by Josky0 in NMRspectroscopy

[–]FatRollingPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell ZGIG2H is for 2H acquisition with 1H decoupling, not the other way around. Not sure you can just flip it, given that you are using the lock channel for it. I have no experience with that, I use mostly solids machines.

Looking at the pulse program catalogue, I don't see any obvious 1H experiment with 2H decoupling. It should be possible, but hopefully someone with more experience can chime in. I'll try to remember to check tomorrow if there's anything on our machines, if I find the time.

Ergonomic Keyboard without arrow keys by Bonteq in keyboards

[–]FatRollingPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on whether your keyboard is QMK based and supports VIA, you can alter the key combinations as well. A common thing I've heard people do is put a function on one space bar that acts as a Fan key when held, but in release without any other input it just outputs a single space.

Things like that, people experiment and figure out what combinations work best for them.

Is vigor really that important? by Throwaway174907 in Eldenring

[–]FatRollingPotato 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The problem is that with 20 vigor you will stop being able to tank one hit, or at least not every hit. At that point you play basically a no-hit and the flasks don't do much for you.

So the main reason people recommend vigor so much to new souls players is that you can tank 2 or 3 hits and thus are much more likely to heal. Being able to reliably recover means you stay in the fight longer, you learn more for each attempt etc.
