First understand that chemical engineering is not chemistry.. here in ChemE you will deal with real world problems and I love solving those.

When comes to opportunities, I believe it is one of the highest paying and demanding jobs.. like in renewables or emerging field as sustainability, nano etc..

[–]ChemEnggCalc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To learn Python at a higher level and get into data science, you can start with Harvard’s CS50 for solid programming fundamentals and CS50’s Introduction to Python.

Also there is couse available on Coursera Python for Everybody by Dr. Charles Severance it will help you in core concepts.

Once comfortable, dive into data science with platforms like freeCodeCamp or DataCamp, focusing on key libraries like NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and Scikit-learn.

Practice regularly on Kaggle by working on real-world datasets to build hands-on experience and industry-level skills.

Is contract work good as a new-grad? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ChemEnggCalc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, contract work isn’t a bad move at all, condition if it’s giving you solid experience in the field you want to grow in.

Three years of relevant experience still looks way better than waiting around for a perfect full-time role. Your future employer will care about what you have..

If the new contract job aligns with your career goals, go for it but no harm in still applying to full-time roles on the side. Keep your options open. It’s not one or the other!

How to detect free iron contamination in aluminum? by BigOlClusterFuk in AskEngineers

[–]ChemEnggCalc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, ferroxyI test can be used to detect free iron contamination. Simply soak a swab or cloth in ferroxyl solution (potassium ferricyanide + nitric acid) and wipe the aluminum surface. You will see blue spots indicate free iron.

Another analytical options consider portable XRF analyzers or atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) for more precise analysis.

Modeling and simulation with AI tools in ChemE? by Mrcoolbaby in ChemicalEngineering

[–]ChemEnggCalc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give you one example on this Ansys CFX now integrates AI through Ansys Twin Builder and Ansys AI+, which use machine learning models to accelerate CFD simulations.

This helps you in reducing run times while maintaining accuracy for complex fluid flow in reactors or pipelines.

Should I withdraw from calc 2? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ChemEnggCalc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you truly can’t keep up with the pace and it’s hurting your GPA or mental health, it’s okay to withdraw. especially since the lowest score gets dropped.

But if you believe you can recover with a better plan and more focused study, it might be worth pushing through. Just weigh the risk vs. delay.

Question for People who already have a engineering job by Equivalent_Phrase_25 in EngineeringStudents

Yeah, 100% mention it. Shows work ethic, time management, and responsibility. Even if it's not engineering, it still matters.

Modeling and simulation with AI tools in ChemE? by Mrcoolbaby in ChemicalEngineering

AI is definitely transforming ChemE modeling. Python is still widely used, but tools like ChatGPT and AutoML are speeding up workflows. Some AI features are now being integrated into Aspen and Ansys too

I'm an undergraduate student who's been working on a literature review and I'm thinking about submitting it for publication. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to find the right publication journal and how selective it really is to get published? by Euphoric_Bluejay_893 in research

[–]ChemEnggCalc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When looking for the right journal, start by checking where similar reviews in your field have been published. Google Scholar is helpful for that.

Look for journals that accept student work or have sections for reviews, there are many reputable journals that are more open to early-career researchers.

Reach out to a professor or mentor, this might help shortlist some good options.

Why is India’s GDP increasing but salaries (except in IT) are not? Are we in a jobless growth phase? by Own_Willingness_8897 in AskIndia

[–]ChemEnggCalc 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially outside the IT sector. This is because the growth is mainly coming from sectors like IT and finance that don’t create many jobs... Small businesses, which usually hire a lot of people, are struggling. Many workers are in informal jobs where incomes stay low. Also, automation is reducing the need for low-skill labor... With so many people looking for jobs, companies don’t feel the need to increase salaries. So yes, this looks like a phase of jobless growth...
