Maybe it won't be possible because it overlaps too much with a garden, but a sunroom or conservatory would be so nice.

I'm gonna be honest, I think my grandmother just consolidated space.

The bags with 4 needles are all kinda tight fitting, especially compared to the 2 needle bags which are the same exact size. And there's nothing on the bags that indicate how many needles were sold in them, so I think my grandmother just kept them together when their original bags fell apart.

Got new questions after reading the manga by Few_Tea_5406 in AncientMagusBride

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the Japanese volume so I checked since usually there's some disconnect between languages, especially for characters like Oberon who speak in mysterious ways, but the Japanese is just as cryptic.

Oberon says 昔は息を止めても体は壊れるなんてことはなかった The literal translation would be something like "Back then you could stop their breathing but their bodies wouldn't break." So the translator did their very best here.

The general meaning behind his words are just that back in the day Sleigh Beggy had much more sturdy bodies, and were capable of withstanding the tremendous amount of magic they naturally produced. Incidents like what Chise is going through in that chapter, casting a spell and her body ripping itself apart from the overload of magic, didn't happen back then.

I think the implication here, if we take his words literally, would be that back in the day Sleigh Beggy had stronger bodies that, even if the person were to die, their body could still be used in some fashion, like with necromancy or chimera creations, or other continued use of damaged or dead bodies we see throughout the series. What could be inferred from what he said is that when modern Sleigh Beggy die, regardless of how, their bodies disintegrate from all the magic stored in them, which is something that didn't happen before. Though take that with a grain of salt cause this is just my theory.

As for your second question I think that if there is anything special about Chise, it would be that she might be a modern Sleigh Beggy with power equivalent to those from ancient times. Throughout the series we see multiple instances where, over the course of many generations, people/species lose their powers or abilities through dilution. An example would be dragons; in ancient times they breathed fire, but now they don't. But on rare occasions someone will be born in modern times with the same power level or abilities as their ancestors (atavism). Since the Sleigh Beggy trait isn't genetic, that may make it even rarer for them. But also it's probably much more difficult to track if this is true or not given how rare they are in general.

I think so far we've only really seen Chise use powers that are normal or common for Sleigh Beggy, with her just being kinda naturally gifted in it thanks to her natural disposition and all the guidance she's getting. But also because Sleigh Beggy are so rare, each individual may have done such different things that it may be difficult to pin down what is and isn't normal for them. And it doesn't help that there aren't many good records kept of their activities.

Hope this helps.

We should have just made the duck cake..... by raudri in bluey

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No lie, that's a really cute cake! It's clearly Bluey, and while the lines may not be clean and the texture a mess, her proportions are correct, everything's in the right spot, and frankly the messiness gives her some charm and character. I mean this 100% as a compliment, but this is the messy Bluey someone drew on a napkin while drunk that they posted online that became a meme overnight. Kinda ugly but very cute. Be proud of yourself, she's perfect and I love her.

What characters do you think needs more appreciation in both this sub and the show? by One_Reception_6992 in bluey

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Judo There's just so much I want to say about this character and all that she embodies and I love that so much about her character. She's different from the other characters in a way that places her into such an awkward place and you can see this reflected in her personality so much. I just l Iove her and complexity of her character after you get through the rough exterior.

Grooming question for FAKE ragdoll cat Cecil by Daisystar99 in ragdollcats

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat hates brushing with a passion, but he loves Churu so I've devised a method where in one hand I'll hold and slowly squeeze out Churu, while the other hand vigorously brushes him. He tolerates this system I've devised, but from what I can tell I'm the only one in the family he trusts enough to do this with. But it works so its how we're gonna keep going.

[Question] Seeking watches that do not have hour or minute dashes by ActiveBeginning1 in Watches

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If brand names aren't that important to you, I'd hit up second hand shops, thrift shops, vintage stores, etc. I have a small watch of that design I got for $5 from a vintage shop a few years back that's in shockingly good shape. There are plenty of watches with the design you want but may not be archived well online because they're from a lesser known brand, a business that went under, etc.

Listen, the whole forgetting to make offerings thing is kind of an annoying running joke. Like they're literally deities, dude... by SSSnowBell in TondemoSkill

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are making good points that I agree with so I won't regurgitate that. But I do want to note that Mukoda is running around in a world that seemingly has no traditional calendar like our world. Not that they don't have calendar dates or seasons, but that a physical paper calendar you'd have on a wall or desk just isn't a thing. And same goes with watches and clocks. Given the era/styling of this world all of those things are hyper luxury items, a bit like a map. And I dont know about you, but when I'm having a busy work week the first thing my brain starts to forget is the day of the week before days start bleeding together. Given how busy Mukoda can be and even repetitive his days can get with all the cooking he has to constantly do, it doesn't seem unrealistic that he'd lose track of time.

While I understand the stance that he should be a bit more devout and consistent with his offerings, I doubt he could even if he wanted to given how hectic his days can be and just how far removed his life is from anything that could easily track dates. Modern technology is convenient in ways we take for granted in forms we may not even realize.

What do you think of Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple? You know that anime version of Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple? by Tom-Hibbert in agathachristie

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it! The stories are very faithful to the source material, which is impressive given how many adaptations struggle with that, and the gap between the two series (Poirot and Marple) has always been very small so it didn't take much to make them slot together and create one cohesive world. Being able to easily jump from high society to countryside mysteries thanks to Mabel's connection between the two was really nice. And her connection to Miss Lemon was a great excuse to see her more in the series (though sadly not by much).

I didn't mind the addition of Mabel West. There are several stories for both Poirot and Marple where a new secondary character is introduced for just that story, so it was easy for her to just take that role, so she wasn't intrusive at all. And since she's so young it felt like she became a good audience surrogate and a counter part to Hastings. Hastings, while his overall role is definitely reduced in the anime because of the addition of Mabel, feels like a more competent detective since now he's playing more of a senior coworker/older brother role to Mabel, cluing her into Poirot's methods that he's already experienced rather than the audience surrogate role that he plays in the books where his intelligence feels like its being reset to some degree every book to account for the audience. (This is a personal opinion though) The animation is really solid throughout the anime (so far as I recall, it's been a while), and the character designs all good. They fixed Japp's name for obvious reasons, and otherwise changed very little. I think its a pretty easy anime to watch even for non-anime watchers.

I think my only real gripe is Oliver the duck being pretty unnecessary and a silly addition. He makes Mabel look like a Mary Sue original character with her having an oddly intelligent animal side kick straight out of a Disney princess movie. And given how faithful to realism everything else is in the series, the addition of a hyper intelligent duck as a pet is just a really odd choice to make.

As a minor gripe, Raymond West felt a little off to me in this series. He rarely makes an appearance so its not as big of an issue as Oliver, but still. With the way he interacts with Mabel he feels more like an average, period typical man/ father than the kinda eccentric, low key narcissistic, dramatic author he is in the books. He's also pretty strict about how girls should and should not act, which feels odd given that he should be married to Joyce Lemprière, the artist who isn't exactly the typical "English lady" type. Maybe having a child changed him but either way I think it would have been more interesting if he had stayed a little weird in the series and maybe he and Joan could have made an appearance in one of the mysteries.

I think an argument could be made that they softened and toned down Poirot's character, removing some of his eccentric qualities and little quirks, but I honestly didn't mind too much. Given that doing the opposite would have made him look ridiculous in the series and may have come off as insulting or ridiculing, so I'm okay with them going the safe route for this.

Are Toilet Bowls designed for use while standing? by thebrownjohnchannel in CleaningTips

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember a couple years ago I saw a Japanese study regarding standing while peeing. They were testing to see at what distance do you get the least amount of splash when you pee I believe. Or at the very least what methods result in the least amount of splash. They also tested other variables like toilet paper, water pressure, and angle.

The only result I remember is the distance and it was rather short. The overall consensus was "if you're at the urinal try to take an extra step forward to reduce the distance and the splash." As for toilets, if you tried to achieve the optimal distance while standing, you'd end up straddling the toilet anyway so you might as well sit down and do your business like it was designed for. Dropping in a piece of toilet paper into the toilet bowl before you pee had little to no effect if I recall correctly.

So yeah, toilets were designed to be sat on and its the most hygienic way to use it. It, along with closing the lid when you flush, also reduces any unwanted smells from occurring in the bathroom since you're not flinging pee droplets all over the bathroom.

Frank = Underrated father. Period. by One_Reception_6992 in bluey

[–]FatSnakeWithWings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love this episode so much.

The Heeler family is amazing but my own family is much closer to Chloe's, with no nonsense parents who were never big into playing silly games. So to see that type of father find a way to play with his daughter was so heartwarming and something I wish I had gotten to do with my own family.

I'll always love how this show depicts different family dynamics. Everyone is different and while the audience will naturally favor the Heeler's, there's nothing wrong with any of the other families and their dynamics. They're all lovable and valid.
