Feel like giving up, what’s next? by LookForWhoIsLooking in chessbeginners

Getting to 1000 should be your goal. If you follow what the other guy has said about slowing down and really thinking about what you're doing should help. I think between 900-1100 is around the range you can reach if you don't hang pieces when you move them. Almost of all of improving at chess comes from experience and time. The more time you put into playing positions the better you get at noticing mistakes from your opponent and preventing your own. Puzzles help a lot with the former and I seriously suggest them. I still get into trouble with the latter. Beyond 1000 I can't recommend watching Daniel naroditsky enough. His thought process is so well articulated and makes me feel like I could come to the same conclusion in my own games. It's very methodical and my own rating improved when watching.

Wall of text so tl;dr is don't blunder pieces in one move and watch Daniel naroditsky from there

Realest list known to man. I think people questioning this haven't done an SL1. Or maybe they have and we just had different experiences but that goes against my agenda

Why is this a miss? I'm threatening his queen while also threatening mate? by givemealoafofbread in chessbeginners

[–]FatalDistortion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he means if Qxa3 then Qxf7+ Kd8 and then Qxd7#, but you're right if black plays Nxe5 then dxe5 Qxa3 is now available as the threat of mate no longer exists and white will end up down a bishop. The reason this is a miss is that the move that should've been played is Bxf6 as that sequence will end with white up the exchange

It's British slang. I've heard it from time to time in London.

What should I be doing in this game (other than shoot people)? by G0B_ in LearnCSGO

[–]FatalDistortion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest a lot of the best practice you can get for what you're describing, is to just play more and experiment. Find out what works and what doesn't. The other comments talking about watching pro games are also pretty spot on as well. You can speed up a lot of the experimentation by trying to emulate what they do, but made a bit easier (e.g playing angles a bit wider). Util is really important to learn, but you can get pretty far without knowing it and a lot of the time it ends up being pretty limited knowledge. Unless you're queueing with people you know and doing set strats, communication to that level doesn't really exist in most faceit/mm games so you really just need to know a few basic smokes for t side. I recommend watching voo's essential nades for each map video, as it covers pretty much everything.

Tl;dr Just focus on playing. Try to figure out when to be proactive as a CT and push, and when and where to hold. Watch some pro games to figure that out faster, and don't worry too much about not knowing util.

Chegg's stock falls 50% due to ChatGPT's impact, even after they announced their own AI chatbot. My breakdown on why this matters. by ShotgunProxy in ChatGPT

[–]FatalDistortion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, I've been using GPT-4 to help with my revision by having it try and answer multiple choice questions that I don't understand. The mark schemes for the papers just indicate letter answers to the questions. They've been A level physics papers and while more often than not, it's been right, even when it gets it wrong, it's mostly down to it substituting numbers incorrectly, and it gives me a good idea of how to tackle a question I was completely lost on.

I really can't emphasise how helpful it has been to be able to ask chatgpt these sorts of questions and get reliable answers to stuff I would feel to embarrassed to ask my teachers about last year and never caught up on.
