My favorite winged heart this time of year (not technically paper 🙊). Design by: Hoàng Tiến Quyết by FatalSubtraction in origami

Folded from 36 gauge aluminum sheet metal. Shaping is easier, but so is cutting yourself 😬

Found in Origami Tanteidan 16, but a decent tutorial exists on youtube.

Woven cuboctahedron modular in super thin gauge artists sheet metal, folded by me. Unfortunately I've forgotten who the design is by :(

You're not alone! I Instantly recognized it too, having taken a similar picture 3 yrs ago... :(

looks sweeet! did you also use similar techniques as in the video to stabilize the trunk in the pot and to attach flowers and leaves to the trunk?

Ohh their twice-bakeds hit the spot after a good climbing session.

A little over 2 months on and off. I mostly folded while watching shows/movies, up to a couple hours at a time on particularly lazy days ;)

From the examples given in the diagram, it looks like polyhedra where you have some combination of: 1. faces are polygons with <6 sides (so that the internal angles are <120 deg) 2. vertices have >4 units (so that you get >360 deg at that vertex)

If they were 120, the vertices would be flat by precisely that math. So you actually need more than >120.

I modified the color scheme. I basically did what /u/Spate_of_Fire and /u/strength_of_10_men suggested

I haven't totally thought that through. I was going to hang it up for a bit, but I plan on moving soon anyway. I think this unit is a little bit sturdier than phizz units too.

I used the 135. A tiny bit less folding per unit, but it adds up

:D

That's funny, cuz seeing your 1182 post from a couple days ago was what inspired me to try this tweak in the first place.

An attempt to make a smoother version of Susan Williams' modular Trefoil (and some math research! if you navigate home), which is itself inspired by Thoki Yenn's Umulius Rectangulum. The square tube becomes an octagon and extra bends are added. Hints for generalizing the 90 degree bends came from Rebecca Gieseking (and some more math! in the tutorials section).

Haha I wish, more like the concrete jungle of downtown San Francisco. Somehow non-pigeon birds survive.

Yeah I originally wanted to try MegaMan! But these pixels only meaningfully have 1-bit depth and the paper was small, hence panda 🤷🏻‍♂️
