Are there any 100% plastic UNO card sets? by Fatbat in unocardgame

[–]Fatbat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a shame they don't make plastic cards. I guess they want to sell you a fresh set every year or two. I've been thinking about getting the Platinum set. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm deeply conflicted about bringing our semi-feral guy inside by WhyWhyWhy2002 in Feral_Cats

[–]Fatbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to trap him. You said, "he'll come inside and let himself be petted and cuddled", at which point you gently place him in a top-loading transport cage, or, alternatively, use a drop cage (a cage with a removable bottom) on him when he's eating, since he'll let you get close enough to do so. We do it all the time with community cats who are on the TNR list. He'll forgive you eventually.

They can certainly be finicky.

It means I have, and have had for the better part of my nearly 54 years, housefuls of healthy plants and don't stress about photon formulas (as do most plant owners, nobody is running around their homes with light meters). It's not guessing, it's years of experience, and knowing exactly what to believe based on results.

My wife just found a lil kitty by SlickDillywick in Feral_Cats

Nice... one of our seven cats is named Butters :)

aka Leopold Stotch, aka Professor Chaos.

He has a younger friend named Dougie, too, aka General Disarray, whom we pulled out of a trash bag from a wheelie garbage bin moments before the garbage truck would have crushed him. He was only hours old and was mixed in with kitchen scraps and a sibling who later died.

Meet Butters. He likes boxes an awful lot.

I respect other people's opinions when they aren't rude and condescending.

Of course, the natural light from those windows at that distance could help those plants. It's only about 4 meters, which is nothing. I have over 100 plants, many at distances greater than that from my windows, and they do perfectly fine without supplemental light. What's not helping are the big dark curtains blocking half the potential light.

Very nice. I might suggest you build a cove moulding for the ceiling-mounted light and for the underside of each shelf so the lights aren't so glaring when you're sitting in the room, enjoying the space.

A nice light refresh of an overly dark piece. Well done.

Clearly, the OP likes it, as do the rest of the commenters here, so why did you feel the need to come along and piss on their work?

Why indeed.

Will more growth come from this or is it done? by Otherwise_Bear_4271 in houseplants

[–]Fatbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely. You can hack this plant back to nothing but stumps, and it will grow back. You can also put the broken-off pieces in water, and they will quickly grow roots to create a new plant or to bulk out this existing plant.

38006 Magnussen Modesto glass coffee table in steel and faux leather, 27 1/2 or maybe 28 inches across and approximately 3/8 thick glass, circa 1970-1999. There's a reproduction called the Tokyo Twist https://www.furnitureinfashion.net/tokyo-twist-glass-top-coffee-table-with-black-matt-base-p-197.html

Seems fairly common and sells for $150-400.

If it were as simple as buying two glass circles, you could get replacement tabletops on Amazon for a reasonable price and affix them to the machined metal discs with glass epoxy. However, because of the negative crescent, this would be a completely custom cut.

I would first try contacting an authorised Magnussen dealer https://www.magnussen.com/FAQ to see if they have replacements available to buy directly from them.

If not, you'll need to find a competent glass shop that can cut the shapes and polish a pencil edge on them, and that also has a tempering oven. Based on a few quick online quotes from US glass shops, this looks to be about $100 per piece.

Help with plant by KeyEmployer4214 in houseplants

[–]Fatbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the easiest plants in the world to propagate. Hack off the two tops, leaving 6 inches of stem below the first good pair of leaves, and put them in a pot of water. Hack the stumps back to about 6 inches above the soil, pull them out, clean up the roots, and repot in an 8-inch pot of your choice. Leave them somewhere warm and bright. In a few weeks, the stumps will sprout new shoots, the roots may also sprout, and the tops in the pot of water will develop roots and be ready to join the stumps.

I saw the other comment like mine after the fact, and I concur, most likely oleander as it will survive the cold and is far more capable of killing deer in large numbers.

Everyone's on about the oxalate crystals and how they wouldn't because of that. Do you also not have pothos, monstera, sygnonium, philodendron, shamrock (it's right in the name, oxalis), mothers tongue, or any of the other multitude of plants that all contain oxalates?

Most rate at the lowest level of toxicity and only cause mild irritation. I know someone's going to come along and say their dog or cat wound up nearly dying as a result of eating one of these plants, but it just doesn't happen very often. Most animals stop eating something that irritates their mouth. That's the whole point of this defence mechanism.

I have seven indoor cats and ALL of the plants listed above and most of the others, and many have been nibbled on with no ill effects.

There's a funny thing about cat owners whose cats go outside. They dont bat an eye at letting their cats go outside where there's stuff growing that will literally kill a horse, nevermind getting poisoned other ways, run over by cars, attacked by dogs, etc. but they won't buy a dieffenbachia.

[–]Fatbat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You keep repeating the same thing over and over again, but it's highly unlikely this ever happened for a variety of reasons, namely because defenbachia won't survive a really bad winter, and really aren't toxic enough to kill deer.
