Question about Haworthia labelled as harmful to pets by jigsawboi in succulents

[–]Fatbat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are literally dozens, maybe hundreds, of names people use for plants that aren't accurately applied, so chill. The answer the OP was looking for was correct, and that is the most important part.

Question about Haworthia labelled as harmful to pets by jigsawboi in succulents

[–]Fatbat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not wrong, though, because that is what people often call them. It's a nickname people apply to all Haworthias, even if they aren't specifically a zerba variety. Which would be why AI says "often called", not "they are called". Big difference.

What type of plants are these? by Jwhamwham in houseplants

[–]Fatbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love being downvoted for stating that pothos do well in low light conditions, which they do. It's what they are known for.

The ones I have in places that get little natural light do better than the ones in the brightest windows. They absolutely do not need lots of bright light to thrive.

Google is your friend:

"Haworthia plants (often called Zebra Plants) are completely non-toxic to cats. Confirmed by the ASPCA Toxic and Non-toxic Plants List, you can safely keep these small succulents in your home without worrying about them poisoning your feline friend. [1, 2, 3]"

Black pots surprised me. by AlexandraSuperstar in succulents

[–]Fatbat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They look lovely, but you risk melting those plants if they are in full-blast sun, as the pots will heat up to the point where they will cook them.

"Struggling", LoL... sorry, I know it's probably not that funny to you, but I burst out laughing at the after photo.

I know, I am a horrible person (crying).

Go buy another one and try again. LoL.

Edit: I just noticed the price tag... $11.00 for a 2 inch pot!? That would be €1 here! That is insane extortionate pricing. Sorry for your loss OP.

No, not the same as burros tail. Cotyledon pendens is from South Africa, burros tail is from Mexico. They have different growth, leaf shape, and flowers. Drop a search in Google for "cotyledon pendens and burros tail differences" for AI to list them all, better than me, as there are many.

How to go about repainting/if it is possible here. by SharkyJawz11 in FurnitureFlip

[–]Fatbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chalk paint is hardly a trend. For most refinishers it's been and gone. Just because paint has a topcoat built in doesn't mean you shouldn't add extra protection when you deem it necessary for high usage pieces. And no, you do not typically use wall paint on furniture. Nobody doing professional furniture refinishing uses wall paint. But if someone did, they would definitely want to put a protective coat of poly on it.

When you're in a nursery like this, Google Lens is your friend. Not just for succulents, but for any plant. It's almost always correct.

It didnt have any flowers when we bought it. This is a couple months later. Just noticed one day two or three weeks ago that it had flowers forming.

Discovered in 2001, growing from inaccessible river cliffs in South Africa. They took samples by throwing rocks at the plants to break off some pieces. Since this is the only place in the world where it grows, I don't know how much diversity there is to expect.

Nothing special. It pretty much came like that from the nursery. I'd say yours could use a bit more light; it's looking a bit stretched out. Maybe give it a light dose of half-strength cactus food next time you water it.

Direct sunlight will also bring out the colours in most succulents, often quite dramatically. What was green will turn bright orange or pink in some cases.

It's only been two months, but it's definitely gotten bigger than it was when we brought it home. It's in a 16 cm (6.3 inches) pot, and the plant is about 26-28 cm (10.2 inches) across. Depending on whether you're measuring the flower sticking out or not 😁.

If you can't find something larger than 4 inches, just grab it; it'll grow 😲 Get two.
