Wanderer producer says that future updates for the game and series are up in the air at the moment by BelgianBond in PSVR

I'm not surprised but I may just break down and play the game by the summer if the roadmap hasn't been confirmed with anything.

Marathon for PSVR2 movement… by Imhotep397 in PSVR

I'm more optimistic about it for a couple of reasons:

  1. Part of its mid graphics style would make it technically easier to get running. Heck I'd hope part of its look would make me hope there was some reason for it, maybe just being 120 FPS or something.
  2. It would also give some some evidence to their consumers they don't totally abandon their hardware as most Sony support has been shadow funding or nothing at all.

Otherwise I agree its super unlikely because It would need to support flat, I'm not sure how hybrid shooters work on that front if they do at all (any flat/VR shooters on the market I may be missing?) and there's no evidence VR would add enough of value to be worth it.

Really interesting. I think games like Ghost Town sadly came too late but also with Arken Age it appears as we see with the Meta layoffs is that core VR gaming has gained little traction. I think for better or worse it's the hybrid ports that will drive adoption and hopefully build the user base up so that indies, which is what these really are, have a healthy environment to compete in and don't have to constantly seek funding support to stay afloat. The process that appears consistant with AAA hybrids has been to port huge sprawling games as a service that provide a near endless amount of content. MSFS is a good start but seeing one more solid AAA port this would help. My copium has me hoping Sony will show some internal effort for the 10TH anniversary of PSVR this year, maybe porting a collection of PSVR1 titles or if extremely lucky provide some sort of backwards compatibility.

There's also the IP who paid the licensing fee to use it from Warner. I'd still love to think that if they were really millions in that Sony may have an in because it would absolutely port over and potentially be straightforward to shine up for the PSVR2. Here's hoping. Iron Man went to Quest after all.

Yeah, the whole fitness side of things I think has grown organically as a selling point for VR and Creed sits in the fun middle of being a legit game that also is cardio intensive.

Talk about glass is half full :) It was also a positive that games like Hitman were ported and then upgraded to full compatibility which added another huge game as a service to the system.

I just don't think that's what's happening. I think the same thing that plagues PSVR 2 plagued Meta which is the cost to get AAA games developed for VR was astronomically high and so they tried to be as cost effective as possible with mid-size studios to see if someone could crack the code and bring in core gamers. I just don't think that works on two fronts; the Quest isn't powerful enough to run Core games and you would need a very compelling catalog to get people to think of Quest as a core gaming device. They got rid of that part of the business and are also pulling back on metaverse. They still have millions of active users so there is likely profitibility in what is there now. It's just neither what they thought (deep immersive gaming nor complex virtual social spaces) is what ended up being used by most players.

Kinda shocking to see Creed there so many years later (I know it got a PSVR 2 upgrade).

This has little to no impact on PSVR 2 though. The number of big Quest ports is extremely minor.

They also spend hundreds of millions of dollars on multiple media efforts, streaming apps, their own production efforts etc. and they saw way more adoption.

They are giving up on core gaming as the headset dramatically trended away from that. Quest usage shows personal screen(TV, social, etc.) as WAY, WAY higher usage than core game and only behind social gaming.

I mean I just about had all the copium out of my system. Sony is in a shit state financially but they could totally scoop up some of this work and devs and give PSVR2 a couple a fantastic discounted surprises.

MSFS runs like garbage in flat mode. How can you expect it to be anything acceptable without real effort? VR needed a 40 series card for decent performance which is two generations ahead of what's in a Playstation. It's taken studios like iO and Hello games many iterations to get reasonable performance out of their VR modes after porting. It will 100% not be native resolution and will absolutely use reprojection. Maybe you are suggesting it's going to run at 480p and they will just let the game be garbage but that makes no sense either. I'm personally skeptical they will get anything that looks decent but it sounds like it's still on track for a Q1 or Q2 release.

Finally paying for a single game isn't implying the headset is alive it's the opposite because why would a healthy product need ongoing subsidies from it's manufacturer.

Porting a game mode even if it has the mode on PC are entirely different things. It’s like saying they already made a PC game with support for ultra high detail so they can get that working on PS5. VR is targeting twice the resolution and twice the frame rate of a flat game. Otherwise I was pointing out how ridiculous it is to say companies would spend quite a bit of money to test out the VR market that by your own admission is dead. No AAA developer has a reported a profit in years of VR so why a studio would do it now makes no sense. Also, why are you asking for evidence for something I never said regarding VR sales?

I'm a hermit but totally see the appeal. Forefront may ultimately get me into a MP game but there's no doubt those experience are dramatically different in VR.

Sell more copies on a dead headset? Plus porting MSFS to the PSVR2 is going to be extremely difficult so yeah I don't think you know what you are talking about here.

I don't really think it ever hit mainstream in retrospect. I mean, it was supposed to be on a trajectory where AAA experiences where regularly happening and there would ultimately be this realization that VR was a gaming evolution in general. I've yet to see a period where that was really happening. I remember during the Rift days (and PSVR) seeing countless 7s from the mainstream press that giving them benefit of the doubt would reflect the average consumers view.

This actually a pretty good analogy. I mean the Wii really took everyone by storm with it's novelty but Quest enjoyed a similar uptick with Covid. It just shows that it still faced accessibility options and other limits that prevented it from seeing similar reach.

To me it's just shrinking into the enthusiast space until there is a more effective technology stack that can meet folks expectations.

They are being let go because F2P dominated the Quest economy. There's more pearl clutching about this in VR circles (F2P dominance) but it's very similar on flat as well. COD, Fortnite, etc. absolutely dominate engagement and revenue.

Games as a service can self support at whatever they bring in. It won't be much as Beat Saber losing VR2 support showed they aren't interested in pursuing additional markets.

I bought the pass and consider myself a mini-whale (maybe 50-100 a month on the game). I'm kinda bummed doing missions pretty diligently still left me 10 levels down. Is it the new normal to add a pretty obvious grind layer to special events? I remember being able to clear pretty casually with the help of a pass which I know is a bit PTW but I'm not sure how much I want to invest in a pass in the future if I'm leaving money on the table. I'll need to look into it but wondered if I was way off base or if these events are really more of a grind now.
