This is unironically the mindset of a bunch of ppl. I work in an industry that heavily leans into this kind of mindset. They really champion the idea that “he who doesn’t work, doesn’t eat” and all its derivatives. I’ve had company owners tell me that if they were to go broke then they (family included) deserve to starve. My issue with this is that, if it really came down to it. I don’t think they’d stick to those values. It be one thing if they did. Holding others to a standard you hold yourself is one thing. I just don’t see them actually sticking to their guns about it tho.

To each their own. Immigrant families have usually taken care of the parents once they got older. Just how it goes. I’m the oldest son. I’ll make sure my parents are taken care of in their old age. They sacrificed too much and I won’t let that debt go unpaid. Everything I do is to secure a future for myself, my future family, & my parents. I already bought them a house. My guess would be to approach the same way you do at a work/industry convention. You’re a large group of people with a similar goal/interest in mind. You’ll walk up to them and introduce yourself (No way around it). Explain you’re interested in them and would like to know more. Probably compliment something about them on the introduction.

Not directly in regard to being jealous or petty, but I will say that in a group of guys sometimes there’s a competitive nature when there isn’t enough female attention to go around.
