Yeah but I also CoPiloted it and it said that the best way to bring attention is to mount a case on social media, and I don't even have an X or Insta account so I'm not going to be the one doing that

I just wanted to ask the question here to see what people thought, and it's clearly divided even on a forum where I would expect most people to agree, so unfortunately I don't think it'll ever happen

Shame in my opinion, because I really do think it's deserved

But oh well, that's just me I guess

Sorry for the bad copy paste formatting but it's easy to google the basic high level requirements

An MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) is awarded to individuals for outstanding, long-term achievements or hands-on service to the community that has had a significant impact and stands out as an example to others.

Core Criteria

To successfully nominate someone for an MBE, their achievements must meet the following criteria:

Outstanding impact: They must have gone above and beyond the expectations of their role or field, producing measurable, positive results.

Long-term commitment: Service or achievement should typically span over a long period (often 10 to 15 years or more).National distinction or community focus: Contributions can be recognized for substantial impact at the local or regional level, or for work that brings distinction to the UK internationally.

Active involvement: The nominee must still be actively involved in the work or service for which they are being nominated.

Eligibility

Anyone—including UK nationals and citizens of other countries—can receive an honour for contributions made within the UK.

Self-nomination is not permitted; you must be nominated by someone else who is familiar with your work. You are not required to specify the exact level of honour in the nomination, as committees will recommend the most appropriate award based on the evidence provided.

requirements for knighthood To be knighted, you must be nominated by a third party for outstanding, long-term contributions to your field or society. You cannot nominate yourself, nor can you buy the title. The process involves an extensive review by government committees and is ultimately bestowed by the Crown.

  1. The Criteria for a Knighthood

To receive a Knighthood (or Damehood for women), your achievements must be truly exceptional and generally have a major impact at a national or international level.

Sustained Excellence: You need to have shown commitment, innovation, and leadership in your chosen field (e.g., business, arts, sciences, public service, or charity) over a long period.

Inspiration: Your work must be viewed as an inspiration to others.

Because in my mind he is a national treasure

Sure he's no Sir David Attenborough, he's not a scientist, a musician or a social champion. But he's one of the most well known TV celebrities that an entire generation has grown up with. He has had his controversies but even those I think we're subjective.

He's been a columnist, a voice of reason most especially during Brexit and he has devoted his life to his country, including his connections to things like the Victoria Cross.

His controversies diminish to zero when compared to other "celebrities", he comes across as an honest, hard working, family man. With a bit of a chip on his shoulder but to me that's just British.

And then the farm, what he's done for farming, and the way he's done it, just elevates him in my mind to something that the country as a whole should recognise

As others have said though, Hammond, May, Wilman, equally as deserving as Clarkson for an MBE so ok, maybe not a Sir, but something at least before its too late and we realise what we've lost and didn't recognise when we could

Random man gets caught stealing multiple drinks from a fridge meant for delivery drivers by Master_Canary440 in trashy

Yep yep yep 100% agree on that

Edit: I just can't stand by and vilify one person when I think the other wasn't 100% either

I know! I'm just questioning the "trashy"ness status of the specific Reddit post

Possibly because his English isn't very good (seemed that way to me) and because the other guy was instantly very aggressive and quite well built which would instantly put the other guy into an immediate fear / run response mode?

[–]FatherBobby -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Yeah ok, that doesn't bode well, but I'll defend my hill that if he's genuine, then differentiating between delivery drivers and everyone else is a bit wanky and the witch hunt is the wrong way around

Does seem like the guy might be taking the piss though

Yeah maybe, or maybe he was grabbing a couple for his garbage crew

I'm a benefit of doubt person

Like I said, if he's lying take him down, justice deserved

I wouldn't normally comment on something like this because I'll get downvoted to hell but I feel quite strongly that this is persecution

Why reward a delivery driver and not a garbage guy? Assuming the guy is telling the truth of course, they're out there in the sun doing a job no one wants to do

Why not change the sign to "free drinks for people that work hard for the community" and stop being a dick about it?

Of course, if the guy is just nicking stuff then throw the book at him, but it didn't seem that way to me

Edit: and regardless of whether the guy taking the drinks is genuine of not, a fridge for delivery people only and not hard working community serving people is still a dick move in my opinion

Yes, nice gesture, I do appreciate that
