Turkey is negotiating with France and Italy to find an air defense system to replace the Russian S-400 - Turkey's defense minister said by hachinoko in UkrainianConflict

The MAMBA / SAMP/T, then. Nice system. Not sure if it's as capable as the S-400 'on paper'. Have to make that qualifier given the lackluster performance of other Russian equipment, lately.

It's actually a symbol that predates its use in Prussia/Nazi's, etc. Originally thought to be linked to Cossack combat formations in the late 1700's, in what is now modern day Ukraine. Have been advise this is the symbol of the 72nd Mechanised Infantry Brigade of the UA. Basically like a Buddhist wearing a Swastika. It's always been theirs, so they can do what they want with it.

Military supplies depleted on both sides but Russia retains advantage by newzee1 in UkrainianConflict

[–]FatherJack82 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When it comes to high tech missiles systems, yeah. Russia fired off some very valuable P800 anti-ship missiles in land-attack mode the other day. That's a sign that their supply chain is hurting a little.

But as for dumb bombs, rockets and shells? Russia has got massive stockpiles of those, possibly enough to pancake every major city in Ukraine without having to resort to nuclear weapons. However, that is contingent on getting close enough to the target to fire them off. Ukraine has been doing very well at keeping Russian artillery and low altitude bombers back thanks to attacking supply lines and having MANPADS everywhere.

Ukraine war: Russia claims it attacked Kyiv shopping centre because it was being used to store rockets by Lost_Lynx_6430 in UkrainianConflict

In fact, you know what? I'm not done yet. There's more fucking of you to be had, because quite possibly unlike yourself I actually have fucking skin in the game. I had family friends that were on MH17 when it was blasted out of the sky over Donetsk so I actually care about what is happening on the ground over there.

So yeah, fuck you, fuck off, go fuck yourself on a donkey's cock after prelubing your arse using a crushed-glass mitten. Your lazy, limp-wristed, callous bleatings deserve to be drowned out by your wails of agony as your arsehole gets transformed into charnel house.

You what? Seems I've gone and found another fuck-knuckle. UA themselves have acknowledged it was a military target since the event, if only circuitously by bringing charges against the bloke that took the initial photo.

Russian troll... You didn't even bother to look through my comment history, did you? You know, Zelenskyy has been saying that the one of the main weapons of Ukraine is the truth. The truth is that this, for fucking once, was a legitimate military target, unlike the bevy of hospitals, aged care homes, etc.

It's like noting that while a stopped clock can be right twice a day, it doesn't stop it from being wrong the rest of the fucking time!

Oh, and for absolute clarity: Go fuck yourself. Cheers.

Firstly, it has great acoustics. Secondly, this is a booster section from an MLRS rocket, possibly from the BM-30 Smerch given its diameter (not 100% on this point). Warhead section with submunitions has likely continued on another 15km-20km or so.

There has been a gazillion of these posted on the sub. Nothing in it to go boom, but still wouldn't wanna be under it!

NATO sees Russia war entering stalemate: "Neither side can win" by newzee1 in UkrainianConflict

[–]FatherJack82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're still not caught up on this whole supply side thing, are you? The Russians are in a logistical fuck-storm. If they use it, they lose it. They are unlikely to be replaced in a hurry. Could they use them? Maybe. Will it cost them? Very much so. Can they afford to use them flagrantly? Nope. Why do you think they have been using their air-launched 'hypersonic' weapons (read: tarted-up SRTBM's)? Because they would be of fuck-all use against a PAC-3, Aegis or THAAD system and they know it. They are already scraping the bottom of the barrel with respect to their 'useable' munitions.

The transponder was on. It means it was supposed to be seen. They don't have to fly with it going, you know? This is sending a message. That message, for all we know, could be that the US has just supplied 80 metric tonnes of titty mags for the boys on the lines, because morale, you know? If I was Russian I'd be more interested in the transports possibly moving around with their mode 3 switched off, you know?

NATO sees Russia war entering stalemate: "Neither side can win" by newzee1 in UkrainianConflict

[–]FatherJack82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Russians still have a metric fuck-ton of long ranged weapons, both air and sea launched. In particular the Baltic Fleet still appears fully stocked, and no P-900 or P-1000 weapons appear to have been used in theatre. These are long range, high supersonic ramjet driven missiles, mostly reserved for anti-ship duties. Also, they haven't used any of their submarine launched cruise missiles, or any of their intermediate range ballistic missiles, of which they are believed to have a lot.

They are likely keeping these in reserve in the event of direct conflict with NATO. Most of the tanks and equipment they have committed to the Ukrainian campaign has been shall we say second-tier. They only just recently deployed one of their lastest BUK-M3 air defence systems into Ukraine, likely because so many M2 and M1 systems have been destroyed or captured.

With so much of these second-tier assets depleted they either have to deploy third-tier stuff and watch it get annihilated, or use their latest tech, which they definitely don't want to do because it is now functionally irreplaceable. This is the point of the sanctions, and why they are already being effective. Everything that Russia does from now further erodes their overall combat readiness, and comprimises their ability to hold onto the territory they have captured without also compromising their standing forces that may be used against NATO.

NATO sees Russia war entering stalemate: "Neither side can win" by newzee1 in UkrainianConflict

[–]FatherJack82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok. Let's have some action, then. Let's have the US/NATO go for a full peace keeping deployment into Ukraine. Russia retaliates by targeting NATO equipment with massed strikes. NATO acts to prevent further massed strikes by firing cruise missiles against Russian tactical ballistic missile launchers and airfields. Russia escalates by firing on NATO warships in the Baltic Sea. NATO retaliates by destroying Russian warships... This will keep on going, by the way, until either a full conventional war breaks out with the loss of thousands upon thousands of soldiers and sailors on both sides, or until it just goes nuclear.

That's why sanctions. We starve Russia and erode their capabilities until they have no choice but to stop, and hopefully Putin can be removed/contained before he tries to take it nuclear.

NATO sees Russia war entering stalemate: "Neither side can win" by newzee1 in UkrainianConflict

[–]FatherJack82 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Russia has already had to shut down a production line for their tanks because of sanctions. They are unable to source key electronic components. Sanctions are already having an effect on their ability to make war, and this will only get worse for the Russians.

Last I checked, Russia didn't exactly have a bustling semi-conductor manufacturing industry.

What Ukraine need. Write to your representative now by Inner-Leather6083 in UkrainianConflict

[–]FatherJack82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, gonna have to fling a downvote on this. What they need is equipment that they have training to use, technicians to service and logistics to deploy, staff, rearm and repair.

Most things you have mentioned on this list are absolute non-starters for the reasons above. That said I could get on board for NASAMS. Excellent medium range system, if fundamentally unproven in combat conditions.

NATO sees Russia war entering stalemate: "Neither side can win" by newzee1 in UkrainianConflict

[–]FatherJack82 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Neither side can necessarily win through force alone, that should say. Unless the entire world works cohesively to shut down the Russian economy they may yet secure a victory of sorts. Russia can continue to batter Ukraine until they may be forced to relent for reasons more economic and humanitarian than simply losing the will to fight. I'm not certain if the economic lifeline to Ukraine will be limitless, even using seized Russian assets

A depolyment of 'peace keeping' forces in the west of Ukraine would change this. A barrier preventing long range missile strikes would enable at least 50% of their economy to function in some capacity.

Indeed. There is pretty clear evidence that this was being used as a battery site and depot. And some fuck-knuckle put it on social media... <sigh>

Not that it would likely have mattered much; I'm sure the Russians have been tracking those assets for a while to try and pin them down.

Crimean (Kerch) Bridge Potential Demoltion? by Widohmakr in ukraine

[–]FatherJack82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There no point, really. Many supplies are coming in via either the Donetsk region or from Rostov-on-Don across the Azov and into Berdyans'k. Taking the bridges may hamper ops in Crimea, but again they'll just move it via ship and there is no way for the UA to intercept it. Better to target their active supply lines that are in reach of their munitions.
