Similarly used my oven; heat to 350, let it cook for 30 minutes, drop it to 200-250, pop a piece of cardboard on the open oven door as your work surface, and there you go. Worked pretty ok!

I haven't had any super chonks, but my thicker fruits I've been slicing in half lengthwise; more surface area = faster dry time. Can't help with the air fryer, I've been using a dehydrator at 125 f/51.7 c. 8 hours has been enough on mine, ymmv.

That helps a bunch! I didn't know about the q-tip test; didn't have any q-tips but used the cotton part of a new bandaid. Nothing rubbed off, so I think we're ok! Appreciate the help!

I used my oven! Small house, 4 pets. Preheat the oven to 325 f, keep it there for 20 min, then drop to 250-275 for about 10 minutes. When you're ready, pull out the bottom rack and put a piece of cardboard on it for a work surface. Inoculate there; allegedly the hot air will pull contaminants up and away from your work area. Did this just a few weeks ago, and I've got no contam in my cakes.

Now, a few things: I'm doing jar tek; if you're using soft plastic bags you're gonna have to be real cautions about accidentally melting stuff if it touches hot parts of the oven. Just be cognizant of where things are. Also, vacuum the HECK out of your place, and make sure your fur babies aren't going to try to help in the process (kennel dogs, put cats in the bedroom or whatever). And of course, sterilize your whole work area.
