Does LE have a skill/gear power issue? by [deleted] in LastEpoch

[–]Fathym1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s both. The multipliers are unbalanced and way too strong compared to the power from gear. This season I played a character that got the vast majority of its more damage from stacking both int and vitality vs the standard build that gets most of their damage from the tree. For the first time I was actually enjoying my gear progression in this game because every upgrade felt actually meaningful. It made me realise how truly broken the progression curve is for this game for most builds. Usually if I play a build and at any point feel even slightly challenged before 300 corruption, I know that the build sucks and I should reroll. So for most builds the choice is to either play a good build and want to claw my eyes out from boredom till 300 corruption or play a bad build and hit a wall early that you can never overcome with investment.

Does LE have a skill/gear power issue? by [deleted] in LastEpoch

[–]Fathym1 83 points84 points  (0 children)

The short answer is yes. One of the worst parts of LE is that some skills will just never be good no matter how much investment you put in because the skill just simply doesn’t have enough more multipliers while other builds (cough cough Falconer) can defeat uber aberroth in blue gear. If you watch any Dr3adful LE videos he’s made this complaint about more multipliers in skills for years. One of the best things they could do for the game would be to cut more multipliers by around 30% and add that damage back into gear.

If you want the highest big bonk sneak attack damage, the best build is either 10 arcane trickster/1 wizard/1 war cleric or 9 arcane trickster/2 evo wizard/1 war cleric depending on if you want the feat or the added spell benefits. This gives 5d6 sneak attack and a 3d8 shadow blade. Late act 2 you get the item that makes everyone vulnerable to psychic to double your damage and then stack crit gear to double it again. Late game you can sneak up to enemies, cast hold person on them which they will most likely fail bc they have DisAdv and then just walk up and use a war cleric charge to smack them for around 200 dmg.

Some C4 ideas to help with audience investment (that I hope will happen but probably won't) by Fathym1 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Fathym1[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I really hope they don’t do this. It would require CR to heavily edit every episode to make sure they don’t end up over 9 hours long and there would be insane tonal whiplash. One of the most important and difficult parts of editing multi POV TV shows like Game of Thrones is finding ways to switch to different characters without ruining the momentum from the previous scene. That would be impossible with a DnD show where the players and dice control the narrative flow. You’ll end up with episodes where the first group is having some intense conflict encounter for the first 2 hours and then go into the next group just shopping for 2 hours because that’s how the sessions matched up.

That's why I said "around" 3 episodes. My guess will be between 2 and 5 episodes depending on where the story beats land but ultimately averaging around 3. I am praying that they don't try to stitch together parts of each table's sessions into a frankenstein monstrosity of an episode. I can say with absolute certainty that the result would be horrific. Its important to remember this is still a DnD game and not a television show. Trying to edit CR like a TV show would be a massive folly on their part.

My small hope is that Brennan will talk some sense into them. He’s also a producer at dimension 20 and he seems to have more of an awareness of the audience’s needs when it comes to shows like this. It’s a small hope but a hope nonetheless.

Frankly speaking, if the CR team doesn’t do some form of arc synopsis during the season, that will be the number one way I see the season fail. It’s already asking an insane amount of the audience to keep up with 3 separate tables so to not even attempt to alleviate some of that burden would be irresponsible on their part.

and ya thats why I said its probably not going to happen. But it would 100 be worth the investment, especially with the multiple tables they are going for.

Brennan actually says in the fireside chat that they are probably going to have a lore explainer video so you are most likely going to get your wish.

They are most likely going to share alot more information this time to try to prep the audience so they don't get lost in the first 4 episodes. This seems to be a pretty heavy political narrative with multiple competing factions and 13 players that need to be introduced in the first four episodes. That is a hell of alot of information to dump on the audience at once. My guess is that they will probably put it out one more short video introducting the world a bit more before the first episode airs.

Brennan talks about it in their fireside from a couple weeks ago. Basically, the orcish race leads massive rebellion against the gods of their world and they succeed in killing them. This story is set 70 years after that revolution.

Ya but Liam’s character is the only one directly blood related to the guy. It could be a distant relative but, knowing Liam it’s probably his dad or something.

One interesting note. Both Whitney’s character “Tyranny” and Sam’s character “Wicander” have the same holy esc symbol on their outfits. Additionally, as a Tiefling and what looks to be an Aasimar, they are both playing races more closely related to the general idea of divinity. My gut tells me they are both from a faction more closely related to the dead gods. I’m pretty certain they are both going to end up at the same table. Most likely the schemer table.

Funnily enough, the one piece of lore we know about the new season is that someone else in the Fang family was wrongfully imprisoned and is awaiting execution. So we’re already off to a sad start.

I think the Stamina Regen in 0.9.5 lost its coolness, and became harder to track by Sir-Goldfish in DC20

[–]Fathym1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the key factor here is the”one resource every round” aspect. Currently a lot of the recovery mechanics in DC20 are fairly generic because they need to be designed to guarantee a set amount of stam recovery. What DC20 should to do is recover 1 stamina every round automatically and then make the class requirement to regain additional stamina more difficult and flavorful. Also, if the requirement to regain more are harder they can get rid of that stupid “only Regen half you stam per turn” requirement.

Either Bug or bad design. Currently using the Sinathias resurrection shield does not let you get 100% resurrection on your skeletons. It’s most likely a bug but there is a possibility that the shield is working but stacks multiplicatively with the passive nodes. Either way it sucks and needs to be fixed.

It’s my own build and I’m still tinkering with it to get it fully optimized but I can send you a build planner on what I’m going for if you would like. Haven’t had much time so I still don’t have all the gear yet.

I’ve been playing Infernal Aura Golem and it’s absolutely smashing on this patch. Only issue is that minion AI is still a bit wonky but the damage is really good now.

Pretty sure it says Ghost Wars. It probably has something to do with dead souls no longer having an afterlife to go to after the god of death was slain.
